Coronation Street’s David Platt star announces engagement to former ITV colleague

Coronation Street legend Jack P. Shepherd is engaged.

The David Platt star, who has been a staple of the ITV cobbles since 2000, popped the question to his partner of six years, Hanni Treweek, during a romantic getaway on the Serengeti. The pair jetted off to Africa for two weeks earlier this month, visiting Tanzania for a safari before heading to Zanzibar for a beach break.

Announcing the news on social media, Hanni wrote: “05.06.24 I said YES to forever!!” with a row of emojis, including a diamond ring, an elephant and a tent. The pair first met when Hanni worked in Corrie’s press office, before becoming a storyliner on the soap.

She now works as a fashion influencer, while Jack continues to play wayward Platt son David – a role he’s held for 24 years. It wasn’t long before plenty of his castmates headed to the comments section to tell the happy couple congratulations.

Jack’s on-screen wife Julia Goulding, who plays Shona Platt, wrote: “Such beautiful news! Congratulations to you both, absolutely perfect couple!” While Paula Lane, who played his late wife Kylie Platt, wrote: “So strange I had such a feeling about this when I saw your adventure! Huge congratulations both of you!”

Toyah Habeeb star Georgia Taylor echoed: “You guys!! Oh this is the most gorgeous news! Huge congratulations!” as Leanne star Jane Danson said: “Aw congrats guys!”

Lucy Fallon, who plays David’s niece Bethany Platt in the soap, and Paddy Bever, who plays his son Max, were also on hand to offer congratulations. Michelle Keegan, Joe Duttine and Cait Fitton hit up the comments section with sweet messages of their own.

The pair have been living together for three years, and share three dogs together. Jack told OK! Magazine last year: “We will get married but we’re not engaged yet. We want to do all those big milestones like marry, have kids, and buy a house, we’re just not quite there yet. I didn’t want to scare Hanni off but we did have the discussion about marriage and children early on as you need to know you want the same things.”

He added on Loose Women: “I think we fell quite quickly and from that we just clicked, and we were on the same page, and you do have those conversations but yeah I think we would like to… in the future.”

But their romance didn’t begin on set, as the pair began chatting at the wedding of a mutual friend. Jack confessed they flirted over drinks, before bumping into each other at their local Sainsbury’s and began texting, with Jack joking: “I texted her afterward and said ‘That was awkward’ and she told me she thought she looked a mess and then we started texting from there.

“I actually thought she looked fit – I just saw the girl I fancy wearing Lycra! We quickly went on our first date and we just clicked.”
