EastEnders fans in shock as they learn iconic character was Ali G’s girlfriend

Much-loved soap actress Kellie Bright, better known as Linda Carter to EastEnders fans, was once the romantic flame of comedy character Ali G.

The fact is totally blowing people’s minds, as they can’t believe she was making us laugh two decades ago in the iconic movie. Prior to her rise to stardom on the popular soap, Kellie starred alongside Sacha Baron Cohen in the cult comedy classic, Ali G Indahouse, back in 2002.

Playing “Me Julie” – Ali’s long-suffering girlfriend in the film – her role was dramatically different to her now-infamous character on Albert Square.

Debuting on the big screen in Ali G Indahouse, Kellie had already kicked off a promising acting career, with an early start as Little Cosette in London West End’s production of “Les Miserables”.

Further cementing her rising star status, she clinched notable roles in BBC series “Maid Marian and her Merry Men”, and hit sitcom “The Upper Hand.”

Her character “Me Julie” in Ali G Indahouse was a standout, having been forced to cope with the eccentricities and unfaithful impulses of Ali.

Her role inspired the making of an eponymous song titled “Me Julie”, featuring well-known artist Shaggy. The catchy number managed to climb its way to the second spot in the singles chart – an unforgettable moment of the film.

Most people recognise Kellie for her role as Linda in EastEnders – a character she’s been portraying since 2013 when she first appeared on the square with her on-screen husband Mick (Danny Dyer). She’s had some major storylines over the years, including Linda’s struggle with alcoholism and the dramatic Christmas Day murder of Keanu Taylor in 2023.

It’s hard to imagine her outside of her glamorous and drama-filled life on the square, especially considering she was part of the comedy scene two decades ago. Besides her time on EastEnders, Kellie also secured the runner-up position in the 13th series of Strictly Come Dancing.

While Kellie is now synonymous with Walford, she’s an actress of many talents. Looking back at her career, she’s played some truly iconic roles, including a stint on the popular ITV series, Bad Girls.
