Suri Cruise now after slamming Scientology and cutting off contact with dad Tom

Suri Cruise has completely changed from the little tot in her dad Tom’s arms.

Suri, who turned 18 on April 18 this year, was known as one of the most famous babies in the United States thanks to her famous parents – mum Katie Holmes and dad Tom Cruise. Her arrival back in 2006 triggered a wave of interest, as the A-list couple were happy to share a glimpse of their baby daughter.

Just five months after being born, Suri graced the cover of the Vanity Fair, making her one of the youngest front cover stars ever. Wrapped up in the arms of her loving mum and dad, the photos sent the magazine flying off the shelves as the public wanted more and more of the newborn.

But 18 years on from her glitzy start in life, Suri has left the limelight behind – and seemingly ditched her father in the process. After being papped incessantly as a youngster, Suri left her life of fame behind her in order to grow up properly and focus on school.

Suri has also found herself at the centre of a bitter divorce row between her parents, with mum Katie Holmes taking custody of her during the rest of her childhood. During her teenage years, she was closely guarded by doting mum Katie in order to maintain a degree of normal life.

Her reserved life thanks to Katie is a far cry from her glamorous life when father Tom, 62, was in the picture. Since then, he has had a string of controversies including his conversion to the Church of Scientology.

As a result, Suri has remained estranged from her movie star father and the pair have had no contact in years. Insiders close to the Mission: Impossible lead revealed that he had not seen his child since 2012, with Katie “safeguarding” the girl.

“This is a girl who is a private citizen,” the source added. “She hasn’t lived her life in public.”

Katie explained to Glamour magazine in 2023 that Suri has been sheltered so much in her adolescence due to being in the public eye from such a young age. “I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person – she’s my heart,” she said.

Cruise himself admitted when Suri was born, he was overjoyed to be a parent, as it was a personal goal of his. “I always said to myself that my children would be able to depend on me and I would always be there for them and love them — that I’d never make a promise to my kids that I couldn’t keep,” he revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair in 2006.

Tom was already a proud dad-of-two when he adopted Bella and Connor from his marriage to Nicole Kidman. Things looked rosy for the family until Katie served divorce papers when Suri was just 6 in 2012.

In 2013, during divorce proceedings, Cruise argued that Holmes had decided to cut ties in order “to protect Suri from Scientology”. However, despite not having a relationship with Suri anymore, Cruise continued to pay Holmes $400k a year until her 18th birthday.

However, speaking to Page Six, former Scientology spokesperson Mike Rinder Suri would not be a good fit for the church. “Suri is not a Scientologist and never will be,” he said, “she deserves love and sympathy.”
