Love Island bosses change major villa rule as England gears up for Euro 2024 final

ITV bosses have broken one of its fundamental rules to accommodate for the Euro 2024 final.

The country is gearing up for a tense evening on Sunday (July 14), as England prepares to take on Spain in the final of the football championship. Despite a rather lacklustre start to the campaign, England have edged out the competition – with just one team standing in their way of bringing football home.

With the Three Lions scoring a comfortable 2-1 win over the Netherlands in the semi-final, excitement is building up and down the country as the public rallies around the squad. But one group of people that are none the wiser about England’s chances are the Love Island cast.

Safely tucked away in the Love Island villa in Majorca, the ensemble of sexy singletons have had no contact with the outside world for over a month. As a result, they have no idea how good the team has done, or even how far England have made it in the competition.

But now, bosses at ITV will reportedly break a fundamental rule to its show and allowing the Islanders to sit back and watch the game. This means that the cast will get to cheer on the team as they hope to defeat Spain when it kick off starts at 8pm.

Typically, the Islanders are kept in the dark on huge events going on in the world, such as the recent general election. However, producers have given the green light to the Islanders cheering on the squad.

“ITV bosses don’t want the villa to miss out so the huge decision has been made to show it on a big screen – they’ll be watching it while AfterSun is on live on Sunday,” an insider for the show told The Sun. “The rule has always been that no outside info goes into the villa – bombshells are banned from even saying who won the general election – but this is a very special exception.”

However, this is not the first time that the show has bent its own rules to show off England’s footballing prowess. In 2021, during the last Euros championship, the Islanders were allowed to watch the nail-biting clash with Italy on a big screen, only to be disappointed when England lost the match on penalties.

The rule flouting comes after it was revealed that Love Island – and its sister show, AfterSun – will not be moved from their usual 9pm and 10pm time slots. This means the shows will be in direct competition for viewers, as the tension in the villa continues to rise.

It had been thought that Love Island would be moved in order to accommodate the match, on the chance it may go to extra time or penalties, but bosses have opted to keep the show where it is. Kick off is at 8pm, with the match expected to finish before 10pm, should the game not go to extra time.

Love Island airs every Sunday to Friday at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
