Amanda Holden’s daughter Lexi has been hospitalised after suffering from a life-threatening illness.
Lexi, 18, was admitted to hospital with E.coli – making her one of the first people to be struck down in the latest outbreak. She was on a ward for five days, with mum Amanda and her dad, Amanda’s husband Chris, by her side.
She had been complaining of bloating and stomach cramps for a few weeks during the time she was sitting her A Level exams. The family put it down to exam stress, but soon found out it was far worse.

Amanda told The Sun: “Meanwhile, I was in Spain filming and began getting calls from various government officials because we had to fill out various forms about what and where she might have eaten, what kind of food we had in the house, etc.
“But we were still clueless as to what this thing could actually be or where it had come from. The cultures came back saying it was VTEC E.Coli, a very harmful strain of bacteria that’s very rare in humans. At this point, there’d been nothing on the news about this and so we could not work out how it had happened.”
After multiple sets of tests and being none the wiser about where Lexi contracted it from, Lexi’s symptoms were getting worse and the antibiotics were not working.
Amanda added: “I was driving back home one day and I had Hollie, my youngest, in the car with me when the doctor called and said: ‘I don’t want to alarm you Amanda, but Lexi’s bloods and everything else are through the roof. You need to check that her temperature doesn’t rise because she’s in danger of contracting sepsis’.”
The TV star stayed in hospital all day with her whilst her husband Chris would then take over later on. At the time, Amanda was only getting about two hours sleep a night but didn’t care because just just wanted Lexi to get better.
Her teenage daughter had a temperature of 39 point something and was deliriously hot and Amanda said it “was awful seeing her in so much pain”.
Lexi was eventually told that she was the 113th case in the country. She was discharged from the hospital but has still been back and forth her inflammation markers are raised.
She may now need an endoscopy as she could be left with an ongoing problem with her tummy due to the destructive bacteria.
