Ryan Sampson is totally unrecognisable from his stint in Doctor Who, as he’s making fans chuckle in the brand-spanking-new Sky TV sitcom Mr Bigstuff. Alongside EastEnders legend Danny Dyer, Ryan will be hitting the small screen as one of two wildly mismatched brothers.
Sky viewers have got a fresh comedy treat with Mr Bigstuff which kicked off airing at the tail end of July, and Danny Dyer alongside Ryan Sampson are on a full-throttle promo tour for the new series. The lads had a chinwag on The One Show on July 19, chatting about their latest project and how they’re drumming up buzz for its release.
But fans had a bit of a distraction while tuning into the telly chat as Ryan was clocked immediately from other shows. Social media went mad with one eagle-eyed viewer tweeting: “omg, it’s the sontaran-befriending lad from #doctorwho! #theoneshow.”

They were nattering about Ryan’s former role as the baddie Luke Rattigan, who starred in the two-parter featuring The Sontaran Stratagem and The Poison Sky back in series four.
Ryan’s been in the biz, making a mark as Alex in After You’ve Gone, Grumio in Plebs and Tommo in Brassic. His latest gig sees him stepping into the shoes of Glen in Mr Bigstuff, acting opposite Danny as his brother Lee, reports the Mirror.
Mr Bigstuff throws us into the lives of estranged bros Glen and Lee, who couldn’t be more chalk and cheese if they tried; Glen’s a slick salesman chasing perfection, whereas Lee’s more of an alpha male battling a prescription pill habit.
The comedic chops of Ryan and Danny are getting big ups for their turns in Mr Bigstuff, which was also penned by Ryan himself. And, bar the leading duo, we’ve got stars like Harriet Webb, Victoria Alcock, Adrian Scarborough and Nitin Ganatra lighting up the screen.
Sky’s blurb for the upcoming laugh-fest Mr Bigstuff says: “The six-part comedy explores broken families, fragile masculinity and carpet sales. It tells the story of two estranged brothers; Glen a nervy perfectionist striving to live the suburban ideal and Lee an alpha male with a prescription drug addiction and biscuit tin full of his Dad’s ashes.
“Glen and his fiancee share a perfect, perfectly mundane life together. Sure, Glen’s got crippling erectile dysfunction and Kirsty has a secret shoplifting habit, but they’re happy. That is until Lee comes crashing into their lives, whilst on the run from a past that’s quickly catching up with him. The trio are forced together: a perfectionist, a fantasist and an anarchist all living under the same roof in an Essex cul-de-sac. It’s not long before their ‘perfect’ lives start to unravel faster than a cheap carpet.”
