‘Embarrassed’ Ruth Langsford ‘in tears’ after Eamonn Holmes engagement rumours

Ruth Langsford is trying to find her footing after ending her 11-year marriage with fellow TV star Eamonn Holmes.

The pair shocked fans when they announced their split in May, which led Ruth to retreat from the public eye while Eamonn returned to GB News with a statement about their unfortunate separation.

Eamonn has since been linked to his blonde divorcee friend Katie Alexander. After Katie was spotted with a diamond ring on her wedding finger, false rumours began to circulate that the two were engaged.

However, insiders close to the couple later confirmed these reports to be false.

Despite the denial, the news reportedly still sent shockwaves through Ruth. The Loose Women presenter is said to be ’embarrassed’ by the entire situation and there have been ‘tears’, reports the Irish Mirror.

“Ruth has been trying her best to be respectful to Eamonn for the sake of both their families and especially Jack. She is still wearing her wedding ring and doesn’t feel right taking it off at the moment and she wanted to be as respectful as possible and does want to invite any more speculation about their situation,” an insider revealed to OK!.

“But seeing Eamonn’s new woman wearing an engagement ring over the weekend really upset her, not because of Eamonn moving on, but because she finds it hard having their marriage and split back in the limelight again. She would prefer it was done in private but she understands that there will be interest – it just feels like another blow – and she feels embarrassed about it all.”

Katie, a relationship counsellor, has been spotted with Eamonn on multiple occasions over the past year and photographed at his home. Despite being more than 20 years younger than Eamonn, Katie is reportedly eager for their friendship to evolve into something more.

However, rumours were sparked when Katie was seen wearing what looked like an engagement ring. Quashing these rumours, her representative stated: “There is no riddle. Ms Alexander is not engaged to Mr Holmes.”

Eamonn’s friends have also strongly refuted claims that the ring was a sign of engagement.

Following their split, Ruth and Eamonn have continued to wear their wedding rings.

A source disclosed: “Although the idea that this was an engagement ring has been denied, it’s still very hurtful for Ruth to see and it’s just another bombshell in the mix, as she tries to navigate her new single life. She is still coming to terms with the split and has tried her very best for it all to be amicable.”

“But she has to put herself first – and she refuses to be hurt anymore by all of this. It has just proven how determined she is to move on and start thinking about dating again and having fun. She was with Eamonn for so long and always put her marriage and Jack first but it’s now her time to shine.”

In a shocker that left fans reeling, Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes dropped the bombshell news in May that they’ve decided to part ways after tying the knot back in 2010. “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing,” the statement read.

The telly favourites, who said ‘I do’ at The Elvetham in Hampshire on June 26, 2010, following a lengthy 13-year love affair, are parents to their 22 year old son Jack. Eamonn also has three adult children from his previous relationship: Declan, 35, Rebecca, 32, and Niall, 30.

While the celeb couple has kept tight-lipped about the reasons for their split, Eamonn has been in the public eye with his health woes. It all started when he suffered a nasty fall in 2021, resulting in three slipped discs that have since hampered his ability to get around.

Even after going under the knife for spinal surgery a year on, Eamonn, often seen leaning on a walking stick for support, was recently snapped using a wheelchair to get about.

Before they went their separate ways, Ruth got real about how Eamonn’s health struggles were taking a toll on their relationship. She confessed, “I don’t know how much Eamonn’s mobility will improve. We live in hope. He does the physio, but there might have to be some acceptance that this might never be 100% right. With any care situation – and there are millions of carers in this country – it isn’t always easy. It’s testing but we manage as a family.”

Before their split, Ruth Langsford had a heart-to-heart on Loose Women about her biggest fear regarding Eamonn Holmes. At the time she uttered the gut-wrenching words, “The worst thing for me is if he went off with someone the same age’. I think that is harder than being dumped for someone younger. That’s my worst fear.”

Despite the hardships, Ruth, who recently wowed on a glitzy girls’ night out, radiating star quality, seems to be finding her sparkle again as time heals old wounds. With her QVC clothing line booming and her spot on the Loose Women panel secure, the future’s looking up and is jam-packed with excitement for the telly legend.
