The Chase’s Anne Hegerty shares ‘real reason for weight loss’ after financial struggles

Quiz whizz Anne Hegerty has spoken out on her unexpected weight loss trick, while sharing her theory on why “poor people eat more”.

The brainy star, famed for her role as ‘The Governess’ on ITV’s hit show The Chase, hosted by Bradley Walsh, opened up to Bella magazine about her slimming secrets.

Chatting about her recent weight drop, Anne cheekily suggested it might be linked to her telly triumphs.

Anne quipped: “Some people have said that, but I haven’t been doing anything deliberate. I do find I’m not as hungry these days – it’s to do with being rich (laughs). It’s brilliant – I love being rich!”.

She added: “It just means I have this sense of security, and do I need to eat this? Am I hungry right now? I might be hungry later, so let’s put it aside and I can come back and eat it up.”, reports the Express.

Anne also remarked: “I swear, when you’re poor – and I’ve been poor – you’re literally hungrier. You feel hungrier, and that’s why poor people eat more, and they eat fattening stuff.”

Last year, it was reported that Anne shed a whopping one stone in just three weeks during her stint on I’m A Celebrity in 2018, where she survived on a basic diet of rice, beans, and occasional meat.

This jungle diet, coupled with the physical challenges, saw Anne experience significant weight loss, which she claims was a game-changer, helping her to maintain her new figure post-jungle life.

In a 2019 chat with Jeremy Vine, Anne revealed that she underwent a series of health checks before entering the jungle and was given the all-clear. The former journalist confessed that while she’s “not a fit fat person” and would like to be “fitter”, she’s “not unhealthy”.

She also shared her weight-loss strategy at the time.

Anne explained that her method involved “small stages”, including adopting a healthier lifestyle and drinking “lots of water”. By doing this, she believed the “weight loss will come”.

Fast forward to 2022, Anne admitted that her weight had been a stumbling block in her love life, preventing her from maintaining a relationship. However, after shedding the pounds, she felt ready “to date again”.
