Jeremy Clarkson slams Keir Starmer over smoking ban as he warns ‘meat will be next’

Jeremy Clarkson has blasted Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer over his “Woke Wilson” plans to prohibit smoking in pub gardens, with the petrolhead turned farmer warning “meat will be next”.

The Clarkson’s Farm star, who recently opened his own Cotswolds pub, The Farmer’s Dog, labelled the proposal a ” Stalinist decree”. While preparing to open his pub, Clarkson admitted that he grappled with the issue of smoking, recognising that some patrons might find the smell off-putting.

As a result, Clarkson placed signs in the outdoor area of his pub reading: “You like smoking. Others might not. If you smoke, please be considerate.” He says “that’s how a society should work” comparing the proposed smoke ban to banning carnivores from eating meat to please vegans.

“In my mind, that’s how a society should work. Assume that the vast majority of people are intelligent and compassionate and let them get on with it,” he stated in a column for The Sun. He mentioned Ricky Gervais as an example of a vegan who loves animals but doesn’t force others to adopt a vegan lifestyle.

“Sadly, however, Sir Starmer does not think like this. He doesn’t like smoking so he’s going to ban it. And then, to make this Stalinist decree sound reasonable, he says the illnesses smoking causes cost the NHS a huge amount of money every year,” Jeremy vented, reports the Express.

Highlighting the flaw in this argument, Jeremy, who quit smoking after being hospitalised with pneumonia in 2017, having previously smoked 40 cigarettes a day, for more than four decades, pointed out the substantial revenue generated by the tax on cigarettes each year.

It amounts to £10billion. “Without that coming in, the £22billion “black hole” Starmer keeps droning on about will become £32billion. He says he can pay for all this by taxing the rich, but he’s deluded,” he concluded.

He finished off his piece with a sharp comment, stating: “He really is Woke Wilson and I literally can’t think of anything more dangerous.”

Following the news that Labour might enforce an expansion of the current smoking ban to all outdoor public areas, Jeremy weighed in with his views. The plans would prohibit smoking al fresco at restaurants or even within nightclub smoking sections.

The Prime Minister relayed to reporters in Paris his consideration of amendments to the smoking laws following confidential papers obtained by the Sun.

The documents propose a forbidden smoke zone that incorporates outdoor sports stadiums, kiddie parks, pub gardens, outside nightclubs, restaurant terraces, pavements adjoining universities and hospitals, and Shisha bars.

When quizzed about these revelations, Mr Starmer remarked: “My starting point on this is to remind everybody that over 80,000 people lose their lives every year because of smoking.

“That is a preventable death, it’s a huge burden on the NHS and, of course, it is a burden on the taxpayer.”
