Netflix fans are raging after the streaming service took down a huge TV fave.
Jane the Virgin, the American comedy telenovela, is now confirmed to be leaving Netflix. The show, which tells the story of a woman being accidentally artificially inseminated, won over millions of viewers with his hilarious quips and driving plots.
People watching the show were drawn in by the absurd storyline but stayed for the heart-warming characters and the honest storylines that were portrayed in later series. However, now, the show will be taken off the service, leaving fans distraught.

During its initial run between 2014 and 2019, the show – featuring Gina Rodriguez as the titular Jane Gloriana Villanueva – was lauded by audiences and critics alike. On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, Jane the Virgin is one of the rare projects to have scored a total 100% – meaning it has only ever received positive remarks from TV judges.
Now, Netflix viewers are livid after bosses at the company decided to remove the show from its line-up, with many fans taking to social media to voice their discontent. One user fumed: “Cannot believe Netflix is taking off Jane the Virgin – this is outrageous!”
A second account joined in on the hatred, saying: “I was so ready to rewatch Jane the Virgin and now it’s leaving Netflix.” One fan even went as far as to declare war on the streaming platform, yelling: “Netflix, we’re beefing – why would you get rid of Jane the Virgin?!”
Fans of the show will not even have long to wait until the telenovela is removed from the service, as it was confirmed Jane the Virgin will be removed by the end of the week. As a result, all 100 episodes of the show will not be available to watch anymore.
Jane the Virgin first made waves in the UK after it first aired on Channel 4 sister channel E4. The series proved to be a hit, with all episodes being shown on the channel, alongside Netflix itself, which landed a deal with American channel CW to air the episodes from 2015 to 2019.
But whilst the show ran for half a decade, come 2019 – neither CW nor Netflix was willing to renew the contract for new episodes, resulting in the show bowing out after five seasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Despite this, however, there is still hope for British fans.
Though Netflix has confirmed that the show will be taken down on Friday (September 6), eager fans can still watch the series on other platforms. Fans who cannot binge the series before its removal can buy the show on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV.
