The Black Eyes Peas star recently opened up about his brush with death at a young age in a harrowing swimming pool accident. The rapper and music producer was just ten years old when he nearly drowned in an incident in 1985.

Will, now aged 49, detailed how he required CPR by the poolside to be resuscitated. He recounted: “I accidentally wandered into the deep end, lost my footing and started to drown.”

Lifeguards pulled him out of the water after four minutes and immediately administered CPR and used defibrillators, but the situation appeared bleak. Will shockingly disclosed that the rescue team believed he had perished.

Continuing his story, the frontman for Black Eyed Peas said: “That didn’t seem to work and they wrote on a piece of paper that I had passed away but then I came around.”, reports Birmingham Live.

In personal updates, will. i.am made it known that he is likely single, previously telling the Mirror: “I don’t have time for girlfriends, and that’s why I just keep busy. I keep going because that’s what I want to do.”

The global star’s love life has attracted interest over the years such as when he dated Celebrity Big Brother celeb Casey Batchelor in 2014 and was rumoured to have been close to Natalie Imbruglia.

Revealing the origins of his stage name in a chat with The New York Times in 2011, will.i.am said: “I liked playing with words. I noticed that my name was a sentence, meaning one with will, who is strong-willed.”

He also shared the reaction of his mother to his creative moniker: “And so I called my mom and said, ‘Hey, Mom, do you mind if I call myself Will.i.am? ‘ She was like: ‘Whaaa? You’re crazy.’ She was cool with it.”
