Black Mirror fans issue complaint as Netflix confirms season 7 cast

Netflix has announced the huge cast for the highly-anticipated seventh season of Black Mirror. A massive 19 actors have been cast in the upcoming instalment, with the show currently in production.

Amongst the names are Awkwafina, Issa Rae, Peter Capaldi, Milanka Brooks, Emma Corrin, Patsy Ferran, Paul Giamatti, Lewis Gribben, Osy Ikhile and Rashida Jones.

Also joining the series are Siena Kelly, Billy Magnussen, Rosy McEwen, Cristin Milioti, Chris O’Dowd, Paul G Raymond, Tracee Ellis Ross, Jimmi Simpson and Harriet Walker.

Further details regarding which characters each of these actors will play have not been revealed by Netflix as of yet.

The anthology television series explores various genres but the majority of the episodes are set in near-future dystopias and contain sci-fi technology.

Following the announcement, fans flocked to Reddit to share their reactions and it seemed like they all thought the same thing.

One unhappy viewer expressed: “Black Mirror was better with non famous actors I can’t explain why.”

Someone responded: “Because it doesn’t need to rely on names to get people to watch. It’s all about the story and the setting.”

Another Reddit user quipped: “Interesting how the newer seasons seem to rely a lot on big name actors and actresses in headlines just to hype us up for episodes.”

Somebody else penned: “It’s gonna suck. Put no name people in it and make episodes intriguing again, not this s**t with demons and pop stars.”

A fifth wrote: “Honestly, they’re better off paying for good writing rather than expensive actors. The casting is always solid but it doesn’t need famous faces.

“All that does is make the show expensive. Give us breakout stars please.”

However, not everyone felt the same way as one fan jumped in to argue: “Wow… It’s really sad to see so many bitter, closed-minded “fans” hating on S7 before seeing even 1 second of story.

“A story needs what it needs, and they definitely didn’t choose these actors solely for their star power.

“I mean, maybe you really despise some of these people but, for me, Black Mirror has always been more about thought provoking storytelling than anything else.

“Sure, you need good acting to pull it off, but everyone listed here is totally capable of a great performance if cast in the right role. Give ‘em a chance.”

The Charlie Brooker-created show aired its first two seasons on Channel 4 from 2011 to 2014, before moving over to Netflix in 2016.

Black Mirror season seven airs on Netflix in 2025.
