Richard Madeley exposes true thoughts when Judy ‘got her boobs out’ at NTAs

Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan were once the power couple of daytime TV after launching the ITV flagship show This Morning in 1988.

But the duo will forever be etched in fans’ memories, not just for their televisual banter and entertainment, but for their hilarious National Television Awards gaffe back in 2000.

The legendary duo snagged an award at the NTAs only for their moment of triumph to slip into a comedic sketch when Judy’s dress betrayed her on stage, revealing her bra to the unsuspecting audience.

To make matters worse, Richard mistook the audience’s gasps for encouragement to channel his inner Ali G, which he’d previously paraded on This Morning.

The saviour of the day, John Leslie, sprinted onto the stage, capeless hero that he was, and covered Judy quicker than you can say ‘fashion faux pas’.

Chatting about the wardrobe whoopsie during their latest Channel 5 documentary Our Best Bits In Our Own Words aired Sunday (22 September), Richard, 68, recalled the incident, reports the Mirror.

The Good Morning Britain host explained:: “We was blissfully unaware, until John Leslie stood up, and we thought, ‘What is he doing’. He raced up the steps, I thought ‘What is he playing at’, he reached out for Judy and hoisted her dress up.”

Richard then confessed his own blunder: “As we had come up [on stage] quite a few people had shouted at me, ‘Do your Ali G’, I thought that’s what they were saying, and I was like ‘No, I’m not doing it’.

“It was nothing to do with that, it was all about your dress, but we didn’t know.”

Judy, 76, added she “didn’t notice” her halter neck dress had fallen down because she was wearing a coat over it. The couple’s children Jack, 38, and Chloe, 37, also appeared in the documentary.

Reacting to the famous scene, Jack said: “I just remember turning around in slow motion towards the telly, and there is mum with her bra out”, while Chloe echoed: “She basically just had her boobs out.”

“It was so awful, I was so embarrassed”, Judy added.
