Strictly Come Dancing’s Nadiya Bychkova issues cryptic statement after controversial exit

Strictly Come Dancing favourite Nadiya Bychkova has posted a cryptic message after her exit from the show.

The BBC pro was paired with Olympian Tom Dean on this year’s series of the hit BBC dance competition, but the pair became the first to be eliminated from the series on Sunday night (September 29). The pair landed in the dance off against actress Toyah Willcox and her dance partner Neil Jones.

Tom and Nadiya danced their cha cha to Boogie Wonderland by Earth, Wind and Fire once more. They’d received a score of 20 from the judges, bringing his total to 43 after getting 23 points last week for his tango to Harry Styles’ Golden.

Sadly for Tom and Nadiya, the judges opted to save Toyah and Neil. Reacting to his exit, Tom said: “I’ve had the best time the last few weeks and getting to work with Nadiya has been incredible.

“I wish I could have gone further and done more dances. I’ve had the most fun and I wish we could keep going longer and longer. We’ll still go out for loads of brunches I’m sure.”

However, soon after the results show aired on Sunday, Nadiya told fans she was “not ready to talk about” their elimination, suggesting she was extremely upset. She posted a photo of herself with Tom in their costumes on Instagram, reports the Mirror.

Nadiya wrote: “I really appreciate all the messages but I’m not ready to talk about what happened tonight just yet.” She added a pray hand emoji followed by a white love heart.

Famous faces and fans flocked to the comments to support her after the sad news. Radio 2 host Zoe Ball wrote: “love you Lady. gutted for you and Tom.”

Countryfile presenter and former Strictly star Helen Skelton added a crying emoji and commented: “Such a shame.” Former BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker, Nadiya’s former Strictly partner, replied to Nadiya’s post with two shocked emojis.

About an hour later, Nadiya was ready to open up more and declared she loved the show, writing: “I want to say thank you for all the amazing messages tonight. Tom had so much to give and I had so much I wanted to teach him.

“His improvement in the last 2 weeks has been incredible and I think, actually I know, he could have become a brilliant dancer. I’m devastated that you won’t get to see that.

My 3-time Olympic Champion was an amazing student and is a wonderful gentleman. He will go on to bigger and better things and I know this year he could have had a brilliant Strictly story.

She concluded: “I love this show and I want to wish the other couples all the best and I’m sure it’s going to be a great series.”

During the show, Nadiya said her partner Tom was a “true gentleman”. She said: “He taught me how to work really hard and how to put everything in. And you know what? On this programme, sometimes to win, you don’t need to win, and that’s how I feel this year.”

The judges didn’t reach a unanimous decision between Tom and Toyah. Anton Du Beke chose to save Tom, but Motsi Mabuse and Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Toyah, head judge Shirley Ballas had to make the final decision.

In the end, she decided to keep Toyah, sending Tom home. But viewers have beenfuming with the decision as many have called the outcome a fix.

One person on X wrote: “Absolute fix. They obviously have some deal to give Neil more air time this year. Poor Tom. Not on at all.” Another added: “Tom has been robbed!! Toyah was by far the worse dancer!!! Absolute Fix.”

A third wrote: “Jeez. First week and already a disgraceful decision. Wasn’t your fault Tom.” Another wrote: Totally disagree with the decision this evening. Tom was far better.”
