Gary Lineker’s nephew, 18, ‘crushed to death by tree’ as BBC star’s family mourn

Gary Lineker’s nephew died after he was crushed by a tree, an inquest has heard.

Jonty Parkinson, 18, passed away last month while working as a tree surgeon. Oxford Coroner’s Court heard Jonty, who is Lineker’s nephew, died following a a crush injury to his abdomen caused by a falling tree while working in Eaton Hastings, Oxon.

The 18-year-old was the son of Lineker’s first wife Michelle’s sister Ali – the former partner of England rugby legend Will Carling. George Lineker, 31, posted an Instagram story featuring a picture of himself with Jonty as a youngster with a caption.

While Tobias Lineker, 28, also shared a picture from their childhood with the message: “Taken from us far too soon, rest in peace little cousin.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to “beautiful memorial or event” for the family – and it currently has raised more than £32,000.

A post under the appeal called Jonty a “very special, beautiful young man”, and added: “I realise money can’t fill the great chasm of loss they are feeling, but I hope it can be used to ease the burden of funeral expenses or go towards a fitting memorial for Jonty.”

A date for the full inquest has not yet been confirmed.
