Scream 7 locks in 2026 cinema release, marking 30 years of the iconic horror series

The seventh instalment of an iconic slasher series has finally confirmed an official release date.

Set to slash its way into cinemas on February 2, 2026, Scream fans will have to muster a bit more patience before they can revel in the next chapter of the horror saga.

Neve Campbell, the original scream queen herself, took to Instagram to stir up excitement among her 666,000 followers with a cryptic image featuring a calendar impaled by a knife.

Her caption teased: “It’s gonna be a killer 2026. #Scream7,” sending waves of anticipation through the franchise’s die-hard fanbase, reports OK!.

One thrilled Reddit user commented: “Great announcement for the beginning of the spooky season.”

Another shared their thoughts: “Damn was hoping for a 2025 release but still happy we’re getting a 7th film that focuses more on Sidney after a good conclusion to the Carpenter sisters story.”

A third fan celebrated the timing: “Perfect timing for the 30th anniversary of the franchise! “.

Someone else shared their personal connection: “So exciting! Scream is my partner’s favourite film so have loved watching the series with him.”

And a fifth fan commented: “So excited but it’s so far away, I respect the release date choice though – not only because of the 30th anniversary, but also to better distance itself from 5 and VI.”

The upcoming Scream 7 promises to bring back Neve’s character Sidney Prescott, who had previously bowed out ahead of Scream 6 due to a pay dispute.

Back in March, she delighted fans with an Instagram post confirming her much-awaited return to the blood-curdling franchise.

Neve Campbell shared at the time: “I’m so excited to announce this news! ! ! Sidney Prescott is coming back! ! ! ! It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the Scream movies.”

She added: “My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned.”

Her comeback comes following several high-profile departures from the Scream saga, with Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera waving goodbye as well as director Christopher Landon.

The original Scream film was released in 1996, featuring a ghost face mask-wielding psycho out to off his victims one by one.

Scream 7 hits cinemas on February 27 2026.
