Tipping Point’s Ben Shephard says ‘I’m so sorry’ as ‘unluckiest ever’ player makes huge mistake

Ben Shephard apologised to one of the “unluckiest ever” players on Tipping Point – after they ended up with nothing.

The host welcomed three more people on Friday to try their luck to win counters and it ended up being AJ who made it all the way to the final. However, there was heartbreak in store as at the last minute, he decided to gamble his winnings.

He had been doing well throughout the show and made it through to the end, but with the star counter – and the jackpot – nearly in his grasp, he decided to trade the money he had already won for a chance to give the machine three more counters.

Fans had been hopeful that AJ might take home the top prize but a disaster ending meant he left with nothing. He had an unlucky set of counters, which all ‘rode’ on top of the other ones and thus didn’t push the star counter over the edge.

AJ made it all the way to the final

Viewers had dubbed it one of the “unluckiest” plays on the machine ever.

One fan wrote: “That’s unbelievable bad luck #TippingPoint,” whilst a second added: “Hahahahaha unluckiest rider in the history of #TippingPoint.” A third penned: “Oh he’s crestfallen… wanted him to get it! #TippingPoint.”

“So unlucky, fair play for going for it #tippingpoint,” a fourth penned, with a fifth writing: “He did send the last one a little too late #tippingpoint. Really wanted him to do it.” A sixth added: “Some say greed, i say well done for trying for your family #tippingpoint.”

AJ had an unlucky end to the show

The show followed the repeat episode which aired the previous day when viewers were left unimpressed with Ben’s opening comment.

He said at the start of the programme: “Hello and welcome to Tipping Point. It’s the start of a brand new series and we’ve got a brand new set up. Three players will be facing our machine and they are all hoping to win thousands today.”

However, angry fans fumed that the episode was actually a repeat and was shown a few days ago. One wrote: “This was on the other day. There must be thousands of other episodes they could show. Pathetic from @itv #tippingpoint,” as another shared: “This one was on not so long ago. Would you ever stop that ITV? #tippingpoint #ITV.”

Tipping Point airs weekdays at 4pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
