P Diddy’s trial date set to clash with most important day in Hollywood calendar

P Diddy’s trial starts on the biggest day in Hollywood.

The rapper, who was arrested on 16 September and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution – allegations he “categorically denies” – is set to trade the Met Gala’s red carpet for iron bars.

The first Monday of May is the same day that the Vogue event kicks off at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. 2025’s theme is Superfine: Tailoring Black style and according to Vogue, the Costume Institute show will “take the Black dandy as its subject”.

Met Gala’s annual event will “examine the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora. Co-chairs for next year’s event include Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams, with NBA star LeBron James as honorary chair.

Diddy, real name Sean Combs, has been held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Centre since 17 September. A judge recently denied the rapper’s request for bail for a third time and Combs has been ordered to remain in custody until May 5, the star’s trial date and the most important night in the fashion calendar.

P Diddy has attended the prestigious event many times in the past, but in 2024 the musician was reportedly removed from the guest list due to federal investigation. A source spoke to National Enquirer about the move at the time.

“Now he finds himself grappling not only with the preservation of his reputation but also with the loss of his standing within an industry that has unequivocally distanced itself from him,” they explained.

P Diddy won Menswear Designer of the Year from the Council of Fashion Designers of America back in 2004, also earning a nomination four years prior. Many fans may not know that the I’ll Be Missing You hitmaker launched his own clothing line Sean John back in 1998.
