Si King has spoken candidly about the emotional turmoil he’s faced since the passing of his ‘Hairy Bikers’ co-star Dave Myers. The TV chef, 57, was deeply affected by his friend’s death from cancer in February, aged 66, and has found it tough to cope with the loss.
In a heartfelt piece for the Sunday Times, Si confessed: “I’ll be honest with you, the past few months have been a struggle.”
He revealed that there have been times when he’s felt like escaping it all, saying: “More than once I was on the verge of jumping on my bike and heading into the sunset. Not tell anyone where I was going. Just clear off and never come back.”

Si also admitted to feeling intense anger, writing: “Other times I was raging. Raging at the bloody disease, at God and anything else I could think of. People were asking me what I was going to do next.”
Despite the pain, Si is determined to move forward, just as Dave would have wanted. He’s been working on a collection of classic ‘Hairy Bikers’ recipes and has new projects on the horizon.
‘Bacon sarnies’
Si reflected: “But even if I end up doing nothing more than making bacon sarnies and playing a few gigs with my band, that’s fine by me. Happy days! ” Over the past two decades, Si and Dave appeared in over 30 TV shows as the ‘Hairy Bikers’, leaving a lasting impact on television. Si hopes that their legacy will live on, saying: “Yeah, I’d like to think we made a little bit of difference, here and there.”
“Just two regular blokes, having a go at beef rendang or apple pie. Hopefully we caught the attention of people who didn’t normally watch swanky cooking programmes on telly.”
“Overweight, scruffy, working-class northerners don’t often get presented with an opportunity like the ‘Hairy Bikers’. It was a beautiful, magical thing and I’ll miss it. But there is a future for me, and I’m excited for what’s coming next.”
Earlier this year Si said he is looking to the new year before working on new projects.
During an appearance on the Bearded Growers Radio podcast in June, hosts JJ and Bish asked Si about any upcoming projects. “I’m going to take this year [off], because after Dave’s passing, I just kind of wanted to take the year to see what’s up, to see what the landscape was and see how things are going.
