Strictly’s Wynne Evans ‘set to leave show’ after Katya Jones ‘wandering hands’ incident

Wynne Evans, the opera singer, is predicted to make an exit from Strictly Come Dancing this weekend, according to bookmakers.

This comes after he was embroiled in show chaos after a controversy involving his dance partner Katya Jones concerned viewers.

The 52-year-old and his partner Katya were embroiled in a scandal when some viewers accused Wynne of making the 35-year-old Russian-British dancer feel uneasy.

During Saturday night’s live episode of the BBC dance competition, Wynne was seen placing his hand on Katya’s waist, which she seemed to brush off. This incident, widely shared on social media, sparked outrage among viewers, leading the pair to clarify that it was an “inside joke”.

However, the repercussions of the incident persist, with BetMGM slashing the odds on Wynne leaving Strictly this weekend. Initially, the opera singer was a 20/1 chance when betting opened, but the bookmaker has now reduced his odds to 9/2, making him the third favourite to leave on Sunday evening.

Sam Behar, UK Director at BetMGM, commented: “Paul Merson might be the favourite to leave Strictly this weekend but Wynne Evans certainly isn’t without a chance of leaving. He looked a lively outsider a couple of weeks ago in the outright betting but the news this week certainly hasn’t helped his chances and he’s been very well-backed to exit on Sunday night. He opened up at 20/1 but is now just 9/2, with only Paul Merson (10/11) and Punam Krishan (13/4) shorter in the next elimination betting.”

Despite the widespread gossip about their on-screen chemistry, Katya has robustly denied any suggestion that she felt uneasy or that there’s any bad blood with her dance partner Wynne, reports the Mirror.

Taking to Instagram to share a light-hearted moment with her 249k followers, Katya posted a photo of herself and Wynne goofing around with images of the judges, all donning comical moustaches akin to Wynnes iconic Go Compare persona. Accompanying the image, Katya expressed her admiration for her dance buddy: “I’m so proud of you @wynneevans,” with a heart emoji.

She continued her message, heralding their return to training with warmth and humour. Katya and Wynne joined forces on the BBC’s It Takes Two to clear the air about any misconceptions surrounding their relationship. Katya sought to quash rumoured rifts once and for all on air, as she reassured host Fleur East that the notion of being upset or offended “is total nonsense”.

Katya stated emphatically, “The idea that it made me feel uncomfortable or offended in any way is total nonsense, and those that have doubts, you guys have got it wrong. So hopefully this will be the end of it, and you just keep making me smile. I can’t sit here watching this man being portrayed as someone he’s not.”
