Liam Payne’s ‘heartbroken’ family say he ‘will live forever in our hearts’

Liam Payne’s family have said the One Direction star “will forever live in our hearts” in a tribute after his death.

The pop star tragically lost his life after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Argentina.

Local authorities reported that the 31-year-old plunged into the courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires’ Palermo district, with medical personnel later confirming his passing.

In a statement released through a spokeswoman to the PA news agency, his family expressed their grief: “We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul.

“We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time.”

Tributes have been pouring in for the singer, with images showing stunned fans congregating outside the hotel after police sealed off the area. Forensic investigators clad in white protective suits and blue gloves were seen entering and exiting the premises.

Fans were captured lighting candles and laying flowers by the roadside in a spontaneous vigil to honour the music icon.

Payne was part of the formation of boy band One Direction in 2010, alongside Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Harry Styles, after they individually auditioned for The X Factor.

After rising to become one of the world’s most popular pop groups, releasing five albums and embarking on four global tours, they announced an indefinite hiatus in 2016.
