Corrie fans reckon they’ve cracked the mystery of who’s taking over The Rovers Return, and it seems it could be a soap icon.
The boozer, steeped in drama from its six decades on TV, looked to be going under when Jenny Connor (played by Sally Ann Matthews) hit a cash crisis.
Things took a twist when Daisy (Charlotte Jordan) and Jenny got their hands on the money that Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) – Jenny’s old flame and all-round bad egg – stole from Carla (Alison King) before he was killed off.
Carla, convinced she was out of luck and out of pocket because of Stephen’s demise, didn’t twig that crafty Daisy had delved into Stephens bank loot. Along with Jenny, the pair planned to rescue The Rovers with the ill-gotten gains.
But as things unraveled in April, Carla was fuming when she pieced together the dodgy deal. She laid down the law: “Until you two pay me back every single penny, this place is mine,” she declared, claiming her stake on the famous pub, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Now, after some recent drama on the cobblestones, chatter among fans is hotting up with bets on David Platt (Jack P. Shepard) and Shona (Julia Goulding) being poised to take the helm at the beloved pub.
Corrie viewers have been piecing together the puzzle over in Weatherfield, as it turns out David nicked Damon’s dodgy cash in a desperate attempt to secure his mum Gail’s pad. But now, the buzz is that he might splash the cash on the iconic Rovers Return instead.
Fans have been chattering away on Reddit, with one sleuth suggesting: “Time For New Rovers Owners? Who Should It Be?” Another fan pitched in with a cheeky: “David. Lol. That would be interesting! ” A third added: “Yeah David and Shona would be good.”
And yet another joined the convo, saying: “David, Shona, Max and Lilly. Have two move out and they can live in rovers return. I don’t want David to go to prison he is not a bad person and Shona will be landlady.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
