“And all the time before, there was no surgery – it was only fillers, and other issues that I had,” she explained. However, the former X Factor judge soon revealed that her change in appearance came down to a health condition she had never spoke about until now.

“When I was about 24, I had my first Bell’s palsy attack, I was sat at home and I had this massive burst inflammation,” she recalled. She went on to share a snap of what the inflammation looked like with Olivia, leaving her stunned, only able to say the word: “S**t.”

Bell’s palsy is described by the NHS as being a neurological condition that can cause the face to become temporarily paralysed. While there is treatment for the condition, including steroids, patient can suffer attacks multiple times.

Tulisa admitted that she was given steroid injections by doctors after her first attack, but this soon led to the left side of her face drooping. She was left so embarrassed and self-conscious about her appearance, she revealed she did not leave the house for seven months.

With Olivia asking what the cause of the condition was, Tulisa revealed that no one really knows what triggers the flare ups. She added: “For me, it was the trauma of the inflammation that caused it, but no one knows what caused it to blow up.”

After suffering from the condition, and afraid to deal with public perception of her at the time, Tulisa went on to confess that she would get fillers done to balance the symmetry on her face. She insisted there had been no plastic surgery on her face, but instead small injections to maintain her illusion of being okay.

Tulisa said she kept up this balancing act for years, only stopping earlier this year. “So even when I was doing the N-Dubz run, it was at its worst, it felt like my face was on fire,” she confirmed.

She said that doctors had found shadows in her face thanks to scans and X-rays, but had initially shrugged them off as benign cysts. However, after an explorative operation, Tulisa was told she had three severely infected cysts in her face, which were soon removed, though some cysts still remain in her face.
