Emily in Paris is not the Netflix show’s “real name”.
The official Netflix account tweeted back in 2020: “Friendly reminder Emily in Paris is supposed to be pronounced with a French accent so ‘Emily’ and ‘Paris’ rhyme.” So, the official pronunciation of the show would sound like “Emilee in Paree”.
Streamers were absolutely gobsmacked at the revelation and flocked to respond to the wild claim. Someone simply typed “omg” while another person said: “I’m sorry…what???”

Another fan of the show joked that it should be pronounced “Parisly” to rhyme with her name, as blogger and columnist Perez Hilton replied with a gif of Barney Stinson making a mind-blown gesture with his hands.
One critic responded: “Well there it is…I didn’t think it was possible for me to hate this show more,” another added: “Why does this make me want to cancel Netflix?” and a third simply typed: “Nope.”
It seems that the show’s stars also had no idea as in promotional material and videos for the show, multiple cast members pronounce the show as Emily in Paris. However, Lily Collins has spoken out about the title and admitted that she had been “saying it wrong” the whole time.
While on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the lead actor said: “So, here’s the thing. When we were shooting it in Paris we heard people referencing it as that more often, right? Because we’re in Paris and the accent.”
“I was like: ‘Oh yeah, it rhymes. That’s cute.’ Literally forgot about it, came back home. It was never, like, a big thing, then I felt like I was one with every single other person in the world that found that out the same day [from the tweet].”
Collins continued: “I was like: ‘Have I been saying it wrong?’ We’ve all been saying Emily in Paris. I was like: ‘Oh my god, I fell for it.’ So yeah, I’m Emily and I even was saying it wrong, so go figure. I feel like that’s actually something Emily herself would be like: ‘I guess I was part of the joke’.”
