Saturday Kitchen star Kate Carter-Larg has defended Trevor McDonald against fan backlash.
The chef starred on a recent episode of the show but noticed fans were quick to accuse the BBC broadcast veteran of not touching his food on the show.
Viewers took to X (formerly Twitter), with one saying: “Why go on a food show if you’re not even going to taste what they make for you, Trevor?” Meanwhile, another asked: “Has Trevor actually tried anything yet?”
Another viewer posted: “Trevor doesn’t seem to be eating any of the food. It looks so delicious too.” Whereas one more typed: “Anyone else notice that Sir Trevor never ate anything?”
Kate sympathised with the TV icon as she also received a tonne of backlash, but in her case, it was for her outfit which was deemed “inappropriate”. The co-owner of The Cheesy Toast Shack appeared on the same episode and defended Trevor by saying: “Trevor McDonald was on there, surely he’s more interesting than my top? He was so lovely, I could listen to him talk for hours and hours.
“Although he did have some bad press from people saying he didn’t eat any of the toastie we made him. But leave the man alone, he can do what he wants, he’s in his 80s! But he did actually eat some of it and we think he enjoyed it.”
When discussing some of the hateful comments she received, she told us that some even awfully body-shamed her. Kate added: “Some of the comments were like ‘she’s cooking on a TV show – it’s so inappropriate to wear those clothes’.
“But I was actually wearing some really ridiculous fluffy shoes and actually that was the most inappropriate thing to wear for cooking and if they pointed that out, then I would’ve actually agreed with them.
“However, I got up in the morning and I thought I had this one shot to star on BBC One at 10am, I may never get this again, so I wanted to wear something I felt really good in, so I wore that.”
Kate’s Street Vendor of the Year Winner toastie business also raises money for charity every month for Alzheimer’s UK. She commented: “It’s a shame and really sad none of that was even touched upon. It was brushed under the carpet.
“Instead, people wanted to concentrate on trying to pull a woman down very publicly. It’s really not ok to troll people, as much as I can take it, not everybody can.”
