Paul Gascoigne claims I’m A Celeb turned him down 5 times after showing up ‘on cocaine’

Paul Gascoigne – known as ‘Gazza’ – has tried to get on I’m a Celebrity five times, but the show keeps turning him down.

The football star wants to carry on his wild lifestyle in the Australian jungle, but ITV doesn’t want it. Gazza is renowned for his past booze-induced crazy stories, but it could be a bit too much for some ITV viewers. Having played for several clubs, including Newcastle and Spurs and bagging 57 England caps was not enough of an achievement for Gazza.

He seems to be okay with the prospect of coming face-to-face with a Huntsman Spider or eating a witchetty grub, but he revealed why he has failed five times to go Down Under.

In true Gazza fashion, he spoke on stage at a West Sussex event dedicated to his life on Thursday (November 7) night. Using a flurry of curse words, he gave the reason for his reality television snub.

Gazza started: “Well unfortunately right, this is truth to God, I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!, the producers wanted me to go on. But you had to see a psychiatrist. If you pass the psychiatrist’s test, you’re in. I failed five f***ing times!

“And to be honest, the first time I went to see her I was on cocaine, so she must have f***ing knew. Second time I told her to f*** off. Third time never wanted to f***ing see her again so didn’t really go down too well.”

However Gazza then revealed in hindsight it was probably a good thing he didn’t get on the show. He’s scared of snakes, which he credits to the so-called snakes he met in his career. Adding to this, he is claustrophobic.

The 500 audience members at his event, An Evening With Gascoigne in Worthing, were amused at his comments. Gazza also recalled when he appeared on Scared of The Dark in 2023 alongside former boxer Chris Eubank.

They famously did not get along, which Gazza emphasised during his talk.
