This Morning’s Cat Deeley slammed over ‘disrespectful’ word during ITV show

This Morning presenter Cat Deeley has come under fire from viewers after introducing Armistice Day’s two minutes of silence by saying it was time to go and “celebrate”.

The presenter was hosting the ITV show on Monday, November 11, when she made the slip-up, which left some fans fuming. Cat was hosting the programme with fellow TV star Alison Hammond and as it neared 11am, which is when the silence starts, she said: “We are going to go and celebrate now with the rest of everybody, with the memorial.

“It is the 11th November and as we approach 11 o’clock it is time for us to pay our respects and join the nation for a two minute silence where we will remember those who served and still serve our country,” continued the star.

This Morning then observed the silence as poignant scenes from memorial services across the country aired, including the ceremony at the Cenotaph. “Incredibly moving scenes there,“ Cat said when the two minutes came to an end.

However, the star’s choice of word to introduce the moment left many viewers stunned, with some posting on X: “Celebrate????”

“Did Cat say a celebration instead of Remembrance,” said someone else, as another remarked: “Celebrate the memorial?” “What are we celebrating Cat?” posted one person. “No we are gonna remember Cat, not celebrate!” exclaimed someone else apparently surprised by the slip-up.

Another viewer posted on the platform: “Can I just say, Cat, that was a time to remember, not to, as you said, ‘celebrate’.” “Enough with this disrespectful nonsense, please,” they went on.

One viewer remarked: “The word you were looking for was ‘commemorate’ not ‘celebrate’ Cat.” “Bloody hell ITV, you need to give a lot more thought to your presenting choices,” the viewer said.

Another baffled viewer chimed in with their thoughts after the silence had finished, posting on X: “I didn’t want to say anything with the two minutes silence approaching but celebrate?!?! CELEBRATE?!” “From celebrate to incredibly moving, someone told her to say that,” claimed someone else.
