I’m A Celeb legend broke three ribs on show and explains why she didn’t tell anyone

I’m A Celeb legend Fatima Whitbread revealed she sustained some horrific injuries whilst filling for a popular TV show.

The sporting star took part in Celebrity SAS in 2022 and broke three ribs during the second day of filming but somehow managed to soldier on and complete the course without alerting production of her injuries.

Fatima, 63, exclusively spoke to Daily Star as she promoted her new book My Bright Shining Star, and shared the awful injuries she got in the early stages of the competition.

Talking about the Channel 4 show, Fatima said: “I jumped from a helicopter on the second day, Pete Wicks knocked himself out, and broke ribs, and I cracked three ribs.

“It was too early in the process to tell anyone, and I wanted to go all the way, obviously. I think what did it was jumping out the helicopter with a water bottle. When it hit the water like most of us, it bounced back up and into my ribs.”

Explaining why she didn’t tell anyone, she said: “I’ve always wanted to do it. So, yeah, I wasn’t gonna wimp out straight away.” Fatima also took part in I’m A Celeb in 2011 and 2022 and explained how her tough childhood helped her prepare for the jungle elements.

The TV star was sadly abandoned as a baby and placed in the care system for 14 years which forced her to grow up very quickly. She explained: “Some people other people would struggle not eating or sleeping but it wasn’t uncommon for me not to eat or sleep growing up, so I felt very strong in there.

“I’ve always had to learn to use mind over matter and learn to be patient and persevere because that gets you places, not brute force and shouting your mouth off.”

Her new book is out now

Fatima continues to focus her efforts on trying to improve the care system for children in the UK and works tirelessly to do so. Her new book My Bright Shining Star (£7.99) is out now and more details can be found here.
