The Undateables captured the hearts of the nation when the show first aired on Channel 4.
The show, which followed the lives of people with disabilities and neurological conditions, became one of the most popular programmes for Channel 4. Many viewers fell in love with the stars as they tried to navigate the world of dating – together with friends and family.
In total, there were eleven series of the show during its initial run on the channel, which spanned from 2011 to 2020. The show would eventually be cancelled as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and would be shelved indefinitely after lockdown ended.

Now, four years on from the show’s demise, a star of the BAFTA-nominated dating show has spilled the beans on production and how dates were organised. They also added that they would spend an immense amount of time to film a date as a result of taking things at the hopeful’s paces.

Dating agency Flame Introductions was responsible for playing matchmaker between the singletons. They had a number of big successes, including babies and marriages, whilst others failed to make things worth.
Appearing on the show’s ninth series back in 2018, Charlotte Badiali was someone who was desperate to find love. Then aged 22, she signed up for the show, hoping to land herself someone to love – as she opened up about having Asperger’s Syndrome.
Self-confessed film geek Charlotte admitted that her time on the show was particularly tough as she was often too honest and eager on dates. However, fans of the show fell in love with her and continued following her after her stint – before she returned for the final series in 2020.

While she admitted she enjoyed her time on the show and would recommend others go on it should it return, Charlotte admitted that there were many hiccups behind the scenes, including long filming days. She also revealed that she was never paid for her time on the show – a move that left her baffled.
“It was a lot of fun though and no, I didn’t get paid,” she explained to a fan on Reddit. “However, everything was paid for, so in between filming, if I was hungry, then I was allowed to get a sandwich with their budget.”
She added: “The filming was surprisingly tiring and long as well! I think on the date day itself, it was around a 10 hour day, and between takes, my date and I bonded over our mutual annoyance at how long it took.”

Charlotte went on to say that much of what the pair spoke about was cut out, as well as other moments she felt were important. “The amount of takes definitely took a toll on us and there’d be like three or four tries with the chance that it might not end up on the show,” she fumed.
Among the things that were left on the cutting room floor included getting her hair dyed, as well as feeding tigers. However, despite the challenges she faced, she said she would love to see the show renewed, branding the decision not to film a new season as “bull****”.
