Pop legend Kim Wilde feared ‘this is only going one way’ after painful health battle

Pop icon Kim Wilde has opened up about a health struggle that left her feeling like ‘this is only going one way’. Speaking to Kate Thornton on her White Wine Question Time podcast, the star revealed how she decided to take action after suffering a back injury.

“I had a slipped disc about a year or so ago. It all went hand in hand, I had a slipped disc and I thought you know what, this is only going one way this age thing, I’m going to get a personal trainer,” the singer confessed.

The 64-year-old continued: “I used to personal train many years ago and I’m back on it with a vengeance, and the other thing I’ve been learning to do this year which has been super super fun, I’ve been learning to paddle board.”

However, after overcoming her health issues with the help of a personal trainer this year, Kim said she has been feeling “very well” after seeing significant improvements in her health recently.

She expressed: “I’ve had a fantastic year, and it just keeps getting better. I’ve been working really hard with my personal trainer, and I’m smashing out my personal bests.”

When asked what she has been doing to feel so good, the star revealed: “(I’ve been) weight lifting and stretching and yoga stuff and core stuff. I’ve been doing that twice for a year now and I’m feeling super super strong, and for a woman of my age it’s a very smart thing to do. If you’re 64, you should be pulling weights and looking after your body and bones.”

In a candid chat with The Times, Kim revealed the positive effects of ditching booze, which she used to enjoy most evenings until about ten years ago. She shared: “Giving up alcohol had a huge impact on both my physical and mental health. I sleep better and think more clearly. Also, my weight is no longer out of control. It has been the best thing for me and I advise anyone about to hit their sixties: arm yourself with a sound health strategy and you’ll enjoy it all the more.”

Kim, who shot to fame in 1981 with her chart-topping hit ‘Kids in America’, has enjoyed a dazzling career rubbing shoulders with music legends like David Bowie and Michael Jackson.

Her success didn’t stop there; just two years after her debut, she bagged the BRIT award for Best British Female solo artist. And it seems the spotlight isn’t dimming for Kim anytime soon – she’s set to rock stages across Europe and the UK, with her tour dates booked till 2026.
