Brittany Murphy’s death 15 years on as heartbroken dad still demands answers

Brittany Murphy was a talented actress but was sadly pronounced dead in 2009, but 15 years on – Brittany’s family are still looking for answers as the grief still hits hard

Clueless star and Hollywood actress Brittany Murphy was sadly pronounced dead in December of 2009.

The actress, best known for her roles in Happy Feet, Clueless and Sin City, tragically passed away at the age of 32. The cause of her death was noted by state pathologists as being of pneumonia; however, not everyone agrees and conspiracy theories are rife.

Brittany’s father Angelo Bertolotti has since come out to call for his daughter’s body to be exhumed for further tests. It comes as he demands answers as to how she really died, as he is convinced something more nefarious could be at play.

On December 20, 2009, Brittany was pronounced dead, with a post-mortem being carried out by the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office. After an investigation, they believed that the star had died due to pneumonia, which closed the case with authorities.

However, just five months after Brittany’s death in her Hollywood home, her husband, Simon Monjack also passed away at the age of 40. His cause of death was noted as being the same as his late wife by the local coroner.

While this may have been the end of the case for the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office, toxicology reports that were financed by Brittany’s dad found that 10 heavy metals had been found in her system at the time of her death. As a result, Angelo firmly believes that Brittany was poisoned and this was the cause of her death 15 years ago.

Some 10 days before her death, Uptown Girls star Brittany had been complaining of severe pain in her stomach. The report from the coroner put this down to picking up the bug Staphylococcus aureus whilst on a visit to Puerto Rico six weeks previously.

According to RadarOnline, the presence of 10 different heavy metals in her body may indicate that she had ingested rat poison, either deliberately or by accident. The results from the toxicology report were sent to the coroner’s office, but have yet to be responded to, according to the family.

“We have no cooperation from the Coroner’s Office,” Angelo claimed. “They say the case is closed, but it’s not closed. They’re liars.”

Angelo added: “There’s a cover-up somewhere. Why should I let them get away with this?”

A source close to the family also said that Angelo would be willing to pay for Brittany’s body to be exhumed – something which Los Angeles law allows. “Angelo has spent a fortune on the case so far and is waiting for the Coroner’s Office to get involved,” they explained.

Angelo himself has said that he is fully aware of the ramifications for his daughter’s grave to be reopened and would be willing to shelf out thousands “if the coroner doesn’t give him any satisfactory answers”.

Simon’s mother Linda has also previously expressed concerns over the accuracy of the test results, describing the fight for justice as “incredibly upsetting”. She added: “The toxicology test Angelo did – and its awful result – has spurred him on to want to do more; I’m not surprised at all he wants to exhume Brittany.”
