The Netflix action-thriller Carry-On stars Danielle Deadwyler – but what do we know about her?
The Netflix roster just got hotter with the arrival of Carry-On featuring Danielle Deadwyler as Elena Cole, a determined operative on the trail of a cryptic traveller.
Carry-On is available on Netflix now, unfolding a riveting narrative where Taron Egerton embodies Ethan, a seasoned security agent ensnared by an enigmatic travellers shakedown. This uncharted foe coerces Ethan into smuggling a precarious package through airport security.
In the ensuing suspenseful chase, Danielle Deadwyler breathes life into Elena Cole, responsible for hunting and unveiling the sinister figure. At 42 years, Danielle’s American roots are steeped in theatrical artistry, culminating in her on-screen inauguration with the 2012 drama A Cross to Bear, leading to roles in top-tier shows like The Haves and the Have Nots.
Not to mention, she’s graced the screens of P-Valley, Station Eleven, and From Scratch fans.
Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, and sharing the familial spotlight with three siblings, the celebrity opened her heart to The New York Times about her early days that pointed away from the acting sphere.
Her romance with performance ignited at four with dance and deepened in high school theatre, yet the notion of professional acting remained elusive. “It was just a part of my life since I was a kid,” she reminisced about her craft. “It was lifeblood.”
Critics have lauded her stirring portrayal of Mamie Till in the raw and poignant biopic Till.
She secured the coveted role via a Zoom audition back in 2021 while her son Ezra, then a tween at 12, carried on with his playtime just down the corridor.
The audition set was drenched in drama and sorrow, but the celeb revealed her son was totally unshaken by the heart-wrenching sobs erupting from the adjacent room.
In a heartfelt spill to Vulture, she talked about always keeping it real with her kiddo when it comes to the harsh realities of the globe.
“I’m very, very honest with him,” she divulged. “He has been able to witness Buffalo. He’s been able to witness Uvalde. He is like, ‘What the f*** is going on?’, without saying, ‘What the f*** is going on?'”.
She reflected that the character of Mamie is deeply influenced by her own roots in Southwest Atlanta where she grew up snug in a 1920s bungalow with her older sister and two brothers.
Post stints in New York and Vancouver, the star chose to root herself back in Atlanta, drawing closer to kin while bringing up her boy.
Carry-On is ready for your streaming pleasure on Netflix.
