Gogglebox icon ‘learning to live’ with health condition as fans send well-wishes

A Gogglebox star has shared that she has been diagnosed with a devastating health condition.

Sue Sheehan is best known for her stint on the Channel 4 show, together with darling husband Steve. However, she bravely opened up on the show about living with Bell’s Palsy after I’m A Celebrity star Tulisa revealed her own diagnosis.

Loveable Sue returned to our screens on Friday (December 13) after taking an unexplained leave from the show for several episodes. As the couple sat down to catch up on their favourite TV shows, the pair also had a catch-up as Sue revealed the reason for her disappearance.

It was revealed that Sue had been given the diagnosis for Bell’s Palsy – a health condition which causes a temporary paralysis of the muscles in the face. The disease is treatable, but requires regular check-ups and can flare up again at any time.

Speaking to Steve, Sue revealed that she has already gone on a voyage of discovery after being told of her illness. “I mean I’ve actually learned to do a couple of things since this Bell’s Palsy,” she explained.

As Steve asked: “Have you?” Sue said yes, explaining: “Yeah one is to speak through the side of my mouth and the other one is chewing, chewing takes a long time.” Steve joked that he had offered to chew her food for her, but Sue shot back, quipping: “You have – but I’m not having that.”

Steve, trying to see the lighter side of his wife’s condition, said: “You haven’t lost the sharp side of your tongue have you?” as the pair laughed. The reveal of the medical condition came as a shock to fans, with many flocking to social media to wish Sue well as she goes on her Bell’s Palsy journey.

One user watching the show wrote: “All the best to Sue – and big love for bringing Bell’s Palsy to the fore.” Whilst a second account added: “Sue and Steve, wishing you a speedy recovery from your Bell’s palsy; Sue, keep being you love seeing you both on Gogglebox.”

Describing the star as a “lovely lady”, a third person typed: “Get well soon!” A fourth chimed in: “I love Sue and Steve; wishing Sue well.”

Sue and Steve have been relatively new additions to the Gogglebox line-up, joining the show back in 2019. However, Sue’s medical revelations came after another star came out to tell all about the condition.

N-Dubz legend and I’m A Celeb star Tulisa bravely opened up about how the condition first affected her, and revealed that the attacks got so bad, she began to inject filler into her face to keep her symmetry. She was fully diagnosed with the condition in 2020, but was suffering with symptoms for nearly a decade prior.

Chatting on Olivia Attwood ‘s podcast So Wrong, It’s Right, Tulisa said her flare-ups were so bad when N-Dubz reunited last year. “When I was doing that N-Dubz run it was at its worst, so you might see an interview, I look normal. And then you see another interview, it’s like, what the hell is going on with my face?”
