Masked Singer fans ‘figure out’ Kingfisher identity weeks before show starts

The new series of The Masked Singer is not set to start for another few weeks but fans are already convinced they know one of the celebrities who will be hiding behind the mask

Fans of The Masked Singer have already worked out one celebrity’s identity – before the show starts.

The new series of The Masked Singer is set to hit our screens in the new year following on from Danny Jones’ win as Piranha earlier this year. The judging panel is set for a shake-up from this series, as Rita Ora bids farewell to the British version of the show in exchange for Love Island host Maya Jama.

As fans of the series gear up for a new season of the show, ITV released a trailer of all the various characters that will be hiding celebrities underneath. But one of the personas – Kingfisher – has led to intense speculation already, without one note even being sung.

The new advert for the show sees some of the costumes that will be a part of the show this year, including a toad, a bowl of spaghetti and a unicorn dressed as a knight. A kingfisher was also seen, as they wore a striped top and boasting a fishing rod in its back pocket as it wore a pair of green overalls.

Other details on the outfit of the bird include a compass and a crescent moon, which fans believe spoil the identity of one of the stars of the show. Fans immediately flocked to social media to address the hypothesis that Kingfisher’s identity was that of EastEnders stare Shane Richie.

Writing in the forum, one user penned: “It could be Alfie Moon from EastEnders – the moon makes me think it is him.” Whilst a second added: “It could be – the moon is a giveaway.”

Other fans were less convinced of the theory, however, and believed that the moon reference in the outfit was a nod to Eddie Moon, played by actor David Essex. Some fans also chalked up the potential act to be being Happy Mondays frontman and Celebrity Gogglebox star Shaun Ryder.

Joel Dommett will reprise his role as the host of the show after it first hit screens back in 2019. Rita Ora will leave the panel midway through the series, after she was offered the role of a permanent judge on the American version of the show, leaving space for Love Island legend Maya to fill her spot.

Speaking about the move, a source close to the star told The Sun : “This is a huge deal for Maya, who’s now one of telly’s fastest rising stars. It puts her in front of a huge Saturday night audience every week on a show watched by everyone from kids to pensioners.

“Up to now she’s had a following which is very young due to Love Island,” the insider added. “But signing for The Masked Singer would take her career into a whole new league.”

A number of other guest judges will take to the panel, including actress and Line of Duty icon Vicky McClure. They will join Maya, Mo Gilligan, Jonathan Ross and Davina McCall as they all try to work out who is behind the mask.
