Kate Garraway makes heartbreaking confession as A-list GMB guest comforts her

Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway was left fighting back tears after sharing a heartbreaking confession about her late husband Derek Draper with Hollywood actress Renee Zellweger

Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway made a heart-wrenching confession about her late husband Derek Draper during a chat with Bridget Jones star Renee Zellweger.

The pair sat down on GMB to discuss Renee’s new film, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, which explores Bridget’s love life after the sad death of her husband Mark Darcy, portrayed by Colin Firth.

As Kate drew parallels between her own life since her tragic loss and Bridget’s – her husband Derek passed away last year – Renee was quick to offer comfort. Renee, 55, listened as Kate said: “Everybody thinks they’ve got a bit of Bridget Jones in them or they know a Bridget Jones!” She added honestly: “It’s usually the loveable bits, mine are always the klutzy bits and the falling over and all those other bits as well.”

Kate revealed: “Since we last spoke, it has become very personal as I have lost my husband, become a single mum, raising two kids on my own, one of them called Billy. How is it for you, do you tap into a personal loss?” To which Renee replied: “Well first of all, I’m sorry, that’s very fresh, it’s probably very raw for you still,” and Kate admitted: “Yeah, I think it is,” reports the Express

In a touching exchange, Renee comforted the Good Morning Britain host, assuring her: “Of course it is,” leading to a heartfelt “thank you,” from an emotional Kate.

The devastating loss of Kate’s husband Derek in January 2024 at age 56 came almost four years after his fight with severe Covid-19 complications.

Kate made the heart-wrenching announcement at the time: “I’m sad to have to tell you all that my darling husband Derek has passed away. As some of you may know he has been critically ill following a cardiac arrest in early December which, because of the damage inflicted by Covid in March 2020, led to further complications.”

She went on to share the poignant details of her husband’s last moments, saying: “Derek was surrounded by his family in his final days and I was by his side holding his hand throughout the last long hours and when he passed. I have so much more to say, and of course I will do so in due course, but for now I just want to thank all the medical teams who fought so hard to save him and to make his final moments as comfortable and dignified as possible.”
