A clip from Spanish reality show La Isla de las Tentaciones went viral recently, showing a man running across a beach in tears while shouting “Montoya, por favor”
If you haven’t seen the viral “Montoya, por favor” scene doing the rounds, then you must have been living under a rock. But if you’ve been left wondering about what on earth is going on and why – we’ve got it covered.
Viewers have dubbed the show, more entertaining that Love Island and it all stems from fans going crazy after a bloke has been caught on camera, legging it across the ocean and bawling his eyes out, while he cries out to his partner “Montoya, por favor” – which translates to “Montoya, please” in English.
This bonkers clip is straight out of Spanish reality TV madness ‘La Isla de las Tentaciones’, known as Temptation Island in English, where loved-up duos put their romance on the line. They get split up on different parts of a swanky island, with each half facing juicy temptations served up by a bevy of single hotties looking to nick their other halves.
The show’s chaotic content follows the news of more chaos from the country as protests erupt over British tourists in Spain.
Now in its eighth season, the show grabbed Montoya and Anita – who’ve been an item for around 12 steamy months since hooking up at the farewell bash of ‘El Conquistador’. They parachuted into ‘La Isla de las Tentaciones’ to give their passion the ultimate stress test, but instead of love, it’s drama that’s spiking – turning them into a global gossip bomb.
Over in the dreamy Dominican Republic, José Carlos Montoya (that’s Montoya to you and me) was gobsmacked on a beach as he watched his beloved Anita Williams lock lips with some new chap on a screen. Like a real-life telenovela twist, things get hot and heavy, and that’s when Montoya loses the plot completely, goes totally ballistic, and pegs it from the stage down to the beach, reports the Mirror.
In an utterly dramatic scene captured by night-vision footage, viewers witnessed a chap, identified as Montoya, pulling at his swimming trunks, hitting the deck on his knees, and letting loose a burst of tears before legging it down the whole stretch of beach. As he made the frantic dash, the presenter’s voice rang out, calling desperately with the already iconic phrase: “Montoya, por favor.”
The viral clip then switches to show Anita cosy with her new bloke, culminating in Montoya arriving at their villa for a showdown. This two-minute slice of reality TV gold has taken social media by storm, stirring up a frenzy of memes and comments. One fan quipped: “MONTOYA POR FAVOR is all I been saying today at random times.”
Another couldn’t help but draw parallels between Love Island and La Isla de las Tentaciones, remarking: “I finally watched the Montoya clip and oh my days THAT IS REAL TELEVISION. Abolish love island fr because it’s very embarrassing how awful it is compared to all these other reality love shows. MONTOYA POR FAVOR.”
While another viewer jestingly posted: “Dumping love island to watch montoya por favor or whatever that is,” and yet another brought the laughs writing: “I want my husband to cry as hard and dramatic as montoya.”
Back in Blighty, we did have our own stab at the format, but it didn’t quite catch on. With the ascendancy of Love Island here in the UK, many fans have noted the clear contrast with its Spanish counterpart.
Even our own Maya Jama, host of Love Island, chimed in, conceding that La Isla de las Tentaciones brings the heat to higher levels than we’d usually see on British telly, commenting, “They’d never allow it on UK TV.”
Montoya’s dramatic response to the show’s latest developments has set social media ablaze. Fans across the globe are rallying behind him, with the language gap doing little to dampen worldwide support.
The buzz has also sparked a debate on how Spanish reality TV packs more punch than its UK counterparts, with viewers branding the shows from Spain as “more worthy to watch.”
