Hollywood legend Tom Cruise has revealed that while performing a very dangerous stunt which left him “without any oxygen,” the actor was left unconscious while filming on set
Tom Cruise passed out on set while filming a Hollywood blockbuster.
The actor was suffering from a lack of oxygen while filming stunts on an aeroplane for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which is set to be released on 23 May 2025. The 62-year-old star spoke to Empire magazine about what happened on set.
“When you stick your face out (of an aeroplane), going over 120 to 130 miles an hour, you’re not getting oxygen. I had to train myself how to breathe. There were times I would pass out physically, was unable to get back into the cockpit.”
Cruise is no danger to risking life and limb for his craft. The movie star is known for his daredevil stunts, especially throughout the Mission: Impossible series.
For the franchise, Tom has climbed the Burj Khalifa in Dubai and even clung onto the top of a moving train for dear life, however Tom’s plane stunt was the one that made director Christopher McQuarrie “want to puke from the stress”.
He explained: “There are stunts in this movie that will melt your brain. There would be a day in Africa – any day in Africa – where Tom would go out and do something that topped anything he had ever done before.”
Word has spread that the 2025 film will be the last instalment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, but Cruise hasn’t spilled any details just yet. He urged fans “you gotta see the movie” as the plot is “a hard thing for him to discuss” as the film is “really something you have to experience”.
McQuarrie addressed the film’s role in the franchise: “It is, I hope, the satisfying conclusion to a 30 year story arc. I’m pretty confident that people are going to feel that the title was appropriate.”
