Robert De Niro’s Zero Day co-star Jesse Plemons is backing him as the next president of the US, as he has the ‘command and presence’ to take the White House job
Hollywood legend Robert De Niro is being touted as the next president of America.
The 81-year-old, who plays an ex-president in new Netflix show Zero Day – out on February 20 – was backed by co-star Jesse Plemons, who said De Niro has a “presidential aura”. In the show, Plemons plays aide Roger Carlson to De Niro’s George Mullen, an ex-president drafted in the lead an investigation into global cyberattacks.
Speaking on Friday, Plemons, 36 – best known for The Irishman, Killers of the Flower Moon, and Fargo – said he’d get behind De Niro if he ran for office.
Asked about De Niro playing an ex-president in Zero Day, Plemons – who is married to and has two kids with Hollywood star Kirsten Dunst – said he had the “command and presence” to actually be the POTUS.
Speaking to the T2 supplement in The Times today (Feb 14) Plemons said: “Command and presence, that’s built in (to De Niro).”
Asked if he reckoned the Raging Bull and Taxi Driver star should run for office in real life, he agreed, but said: “That’s a tough gig.”
De Niro supported Democrat Joe Biden for re-election, and has previously called Donald Trump a “buffoon” and said he has the qualities of a “vicious dictator”.
Ronald Reagan is the only actor to become President, serving between 1981-89, although Trump has appeared in movies as himself, starring in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and Zoolander, among others.
