Danny Dyer and Sir Derek Jacobi will be appearing in an upcoming Christmas film alongside a cast of comedians and screen legends – it will be a festive treat
Soap icon Danny Dyer has linked up with a crew of comedy giants and screen legends for a festive flick that’s set to jingle your bells.
It’s been a busy year for the former EastEnders star, as Danny has had a number of roles, including one which saw him transform into an OAP. However, it hasn’t all been good news, as his BBC comedy-drama was axed after just one series.
The movie, Tinsel Town, will showcase Bradley Mack – portrayed by Kiefer Sutherland of 24 fame – a washed-up Hollywood action hero who crash-lands in a quaint village to star in the local Cinderella show.
The movie’s also roped in aca-awesome Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson. Dyer, who’s an EastEnders heartthrob famed as pub landlord Mick Carter and known for his roles in cult classics like Human Traffic and The Football Factory, is set to charm as a local villager.
Mack’s life gets twisted when he links up with a group of quirky characters choreographed by Wilson’s character in the panto-esque gig. The cast is brimming with notable names including Shakespeare master Sir Derek, known from Gladiator, funnyman Mawaan Rizwan, Waterloo Road’s very own jokester Jason Manford, Ted Lasso’s James Lance, and heartthrob Lucien Laviscount from Emily in Paris.
The mix is spiced up by London-based Canadian comed Katherine Ryan as Mack’s ever-patient agent, while Goodness Gracious Me star Meera Syal is commandeering the director’s seat.
Sky’s original film director Julia Stuart couldn’t hide her excitement, stating: “We couldn’t be more pleased to welcome such a phenomenal array of talent to Tinsel Town.”
She hailed Sir Derek and Syal as “screen legends”, bigged up Ryan and Dyer’s “comedic energy” and summed it up with a dash of fanfare: “This cast is truly something special,” she gushed.
“Their chemistry and unique performances will bring an extra layer of magic, mischief and heart to what promises to be a festive treat for Sky audiences. We can’t wait to share it with the world later this year.”
Helmed by Chris Foggin, who’s got a knack for comedies like Fisherman’s Friends and Bank Of Dave under his belt, Tinsel Town is all set to sparkle on Sky Cinema this Christmas. Sky has cooked up this festive film alongside Future Artists Entertainment and Mister Smith Entertainment.
David Garrett from Mister Smith Entertainment describes the upcoming flick as a “delightfully funny and heartwarming movie” and promises viewers a “fun ride”. Meanwhile, Matt Williams from Future Artists Entertainment couldn’t contain his excitement about the stellar cast, saying: “I couldn’t be more thrilled with the incredible ensemble we’ve put together for this film, every actor brings such heart and magic to the story and together they’ve created something truly special.”
Tinseltown is often used to refer to Hollywood because of the glittering image associated with the film industry.
