The director of The Substance, starring Demi Moore, decided to come prepared for the chilly British weather in an oversized puffer jacket – and didn’t take it off on the red carpet
Director of ‘The Substance’ ditched the glitz for warmth as she graced the BAFTA red carpet in her huge puffer jacket.
Coralie Fargeat, one of the brains behind ‘the goriest film of the year starring Demi Moore, wasn’t pulling any punches with the freezing February whether this evening (Sunday 16) when heading into the film awards ceremony.
The French director, 48, stepped out on the red carpet at venue Royal Festival Hall, London, wrapped up in a long black puffer-style jacket, with buttons done all the way up – looking more like she’s about to stand on a footy pitch.
While her fellow A-listers left their coats behind to flaunt their glamorous, yet weather inappropriate dresses, Coralie grinned in her cosy coat that featured a huge collar to keep her neck snug too.
She smiled for the cameras in the coat that concealed her black maxi dress underneath, with silver detailing popping out at the bottom of the jacket.
Coralie finished the red carpet outfit with a subtle makeup look, some silver jewellery and a slicked back up-do – still looking effortlessly chic!
The Substance is nominated for five BAFTAs, including potential gongs for Coralie in the ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best Original Screenplay’ categories.
While the film, featuring Demi Moore as an actress after her ‘peak’ looking to create a younger version of herself, is considered the ‘goriest of the year’, the director shared that it is not ‘gory’ – but ‘allegory’.
“The story was really for me expressing what a life of a woman in our society is in a very genuine way, which is the violence that I think it’s at every level and stage… since we were little girls,” she told Sky News.
“There are so many pressures that make you feel that if you are not the perfect fantasy or ideal then you don’t deserve to exist.
“That you have to cut this, hide that, keep it inside, and it is a huge jail that we’ve been raised with and it generates so much violence.”
Earlier this evening, many stars turned heads when they posed on the red carpet – including a shock appearance from Molly Mae and a makeup-free Pamela Anderson, who is presenting an award.
The BAFTAs will be available to watch from 7pm this evening on BBC One, or can be streamed on BBC iPlayer.
