Sky subscribers could make significant savings by incorporating Netflix into their existing package instead of paying for a separate subscription
UK households are bracing for another surge in streaming costs as Netflix announces price increases across its plans.
The popular platform, known for smash hits like Squid Game and The Crown, is hiking prices by up to £2 a month. The most commonly used standard plan will see the largest leap, going from £10.99 to £12.99 per month. The premium plan will also rise by £1 to £18.99.
Even Netflix’s cheapest, ad-supported plan will increase from £4.99 to £5.99. As streaming services mirror traditional TV providers in raising prices, many customers are seeking ways to reduce expenses. However, Sky subscribers could save nearly £96 annually by incorporating Netflix into their existing package instead of paying for a separate subscription. There are also potential significant savings if purchasing Netflix as part of a bundle from EE and Virgin Media.
Lyndsey Burton, managing director of Choose.co.uk, said: “Prices for Netflix are rising, but savvy consumers can save by opting for a TV and broadband bundle with Netflix included at no extra cost. Sky, Virgin Media, and EE TV all offer packages with Netflix, making this one of the cheapest ways to add Netflix to a pay-TV bundle.”
For instance, millions of Sky TV customers already have Netflix’s ad-supported plan included in their subscription. This applies to those on Sky’s Essential TV package, which costs just £15 a month.
The package, which includes Netflix with ads, also provides access to Discovery+ and Sky Atlantic. For those currently shelling out for a separate standard Netflix subscription at £12.99 per month, switching to a Sky bundle could result in substantial savings.
Sky customers can upgrade from the ad-supported plan to the standard ad-free version for an additional £6 a month – that’s just £72 annually compared to the £155.88 cost of subscribing to Netflix directly, equating to an annual saving of £83.88. A Netflix Premium subscription, when bundled with Sky, costs an extra £11 per month.
This is significantly cheaper than Netflix’s standalone price of £18.99, leading to a total annual saving of £95.88. Here’s what you need to know about Netflix Price Changes: Standard with Ads: £5.99 (up £1 from £4.99) – Ad-supported, most movies and TV shows available, watch on 2 devices in 1080p Full HD, download on 2 devices.
Standard: £12.99 (up £2 from £10.99) – Ad-free movies, TV shows, and games, watch on 2 devices in 1080p Full HD, option to add 1 extra member, download on 2 devices. Premium: £18.99 (up £1 from £17.99) – Ad-free content, watch on 4 devices in 4K Ultra HD + HDR, option to add 2 extra members, download on 6 devices.
Customers of Virgin Media and EE TV have the choice to upgrade from Netflix’s ad-supported plan for an additional £6 per month or go for the premium plan at £13 monthly. However, unlike Sky, Virgin Media doesn’t automatically include the standard ad-free Netflix subscription in all its packages, so customers are advised to scrutinise their contracts thoroughly.
Ernest Doku, broadband and streaming expert at Uswitch.com, says: “Bundling your TV services with your broadband can be a good way to save money if you make full use of what’s being offered by your provider. Of course, if you’re not interested in using other TV services, it will still be cheaper to purchase a Netflix subscription separately to your broadband.”
As subscription costs continue to escalate, it’s crucial for consumers to evaluate their options meticulously to ensure they’re getting the best bang for their buck.
