The Libertines star Pete Doherty has received a stark warning from doctors after being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, with medics warning he could lose his toes if he doesn’t take care.

Doherty, 45, who has been open about his struggles with addiction, has been advised to stay off his feet as much as possible.

At a concert in Munich, Germany, he told fans: “I saw the doctor today and he said you need to stay off your feet as much as you can otherwise you’ll lose your toes.”

The rock star revealed his Type 2 diabetes diagnosis in early 2024, admitting in an interview with the Guardian’s Saturday magazine that he has struggled to cut back on unhealthy habits.

He said: “I gave up the main poisons and my health improved. Then you get told alcohol and cheese and sugar are just as bad and you were healthier when you were on heroin.”

He described himself as “a bit of a glutton,”, adding: “It’s not a joke. I’ve been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. And at the moment I’m lacking the discipline to tackle cholesterol.”

Pete Doherty has opened up about his notorious past and its impact on his health during the BBC’s ‘Louis Theroux Interviews’ series. The former bad boy of rock, who once made headlines for his wild lifestyle, was seen in a concerning state in the documentary, clutching his chest in pain and admitting: “You are looking at a very sick man. I’ve battered it, haven’t I, I’ve f***ing caned it. The heroin and the crack… I surrendered to that, and then it was cocaine and the smoking and the alcohol, and now it’s cheese and the saucisson, and the sugar in the tea.”

He warned of the looming threat of death due to his unhealthy habits, saying, “It’s all gotta go. They told me a little while ago if you don’t change your diet then you’re gonna have diabetes and cholesterol problems. Death’s lurking, you know what I mean? That’s why I carry that stick.”

However, Pete credits Frederic Lo with helping him turn his life around, having been mostly clean since 2019, reports the Mirror.
