CBBC’s Raven is now streaming on iPlayer and after the news was recently announced, fans of the show were gobsmacked to find out the meaning behind one character’s unusual name

Raven fans have discovered something truly wild.

Over on Reddit, fans of the show were mind-blown as one fan revealed their discovery: “Took me way too long to realise the villain, Nevar, is just Raven backwards.” Someone joked that they “Nevar realised that,” while others expressed their shock.

“Oh holy s***,” said one, while another typed: “F*** sake man, mind blown.” Raven fans are rejoicing because the iconic kids’ series is available to watch once again, 15 years after the CBBC show stopped airing.

First launched back in 2002, CBBC’s Raven was a noughties staple beloved by children across the UK. James Mackenzie played the titular character, a warlock dressed in a long black cloak covered in feathers, leather gloves and a necklace of bones.

His iconic look also featured a huge staff with the head of a raven as the handle, along with a stark black beard and a pointed black hairstyle. Children competed on the show as warriors, taking part in challenges and games in an attempt to beat the evil wizard Nevar.

Sadly the original series was axed back in 2010, but was revived in 2017 with Aisha Toussaint as host. The second iteration was cut after just two series.

After hearing the news that Raven is now available to watch on BBC iPlayer, Mackenzie took to X/Twitter to share his joy. The CBBC star wrote: “RAVEN IS BACK ON @BBCiPlayer what the actual?!”

James signed off with: “Enjoy young warriors,” before adding the hashtag #letthechallengebegin, his character’s famous tagline. Former CBBC viewers were buzzing to relive their childhoods and replied to his tweet with excited messages.

“ICONIC. This was MY childhood show,” said one person. A second chimed in: “OMG see everyone in 3-4 business day, I have matters to attend to.”

“Funny, I was just thinking this when I was watching Traitors. I missed this. I want more shows like this since I’ve learned I missed various ones that came out before/around the time I was born. This was great fun to watch,” reminisced another Raven fan.
