EastEnders fans experienced a double dose of shock as Kat Slater reappeared during the BBC soap’s live episode, celebrating its 40th anniversary.
Many fans on social media had been questioning where Kat, played by Jessie Wallace, had been during the lead up. However, her appearance during the landmark episode had fans going wild.
Her return sparked a frenzy on Twitter (X), with one user exclaiming, “OMG KAT IS HERE #EastEnders40 #EastEnders #EELive #EE40,” Another fan wrote, “KAT SLATER HAS FINALLY APPEARED #eelive #eastenders,” while a third commented, “Oh finally there’s Kat! ! She’s been gone for days not hours.”
This dramatic comeback follows the unexpected appearance of Anita Dobson, reprising her iconic role as the late Angie Watts.
In a surprising twist, Angie’s spirit appeared to her ailing daughter Sharon, urging her to scream for help and reassuring her, “You’re not giving up on us, are you Sharon? ” As Sharon expressed her fear and need for warmth, Angie offered words of comfort, saying, “I know baby and I wish I could just put my arms round you and give you a great big hug but it’s not time for us to be together yet darling.”
This poignant exchange saw Angie telling Sharon, “We’re all scared aren’t we? Look at me – spent my whole life being scared. But you’ve got to keep fighting, Sharon.”
Motivated by the imagined words of Angie, Sharon started to call for help, leading Grant to rush in and save her from the blazing building. Anita, 75, last graced EastEnders in 1988 as Angie, an original character who has been part of some of the most memorable episodes in the soap’s history, reports the Mirror.
Anita made a surprise appearance on EastEnders: 40 Years on The Square earlier this week, featuring in the documentary that celebrates the soap’s anniversary milestone. This unexpected return left fans utterly stunned, as it was kept under wraps until the episode aired that night.
