Coronation Street has been pulled from ITV schedules once again, and viewers of the ITV soap have been left ‘fuming’ as the huge schedule shake up was confirmed
Coronation Street viewers were left utterly miffed after finding out that there won’t be a trip down the ITV cobblestones.
Soap fans expect their fix every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for a solid hour on ITV1, with the option to catch up from the crack of dawn on ITVX for all of the chaotic action on the cobbles.
However, soap loyalists were in for a letdown on Friday (21st February) when they twigged that Corrie had been yanked from the telly schedules once more. Not to worry though, Emmerdale is still on but at the earlier slot of 7.00 – 7.30 pm before ITV switches gears to broadcast the UEFA Women’s Nations League live.
The sports fans are in for a treat with England vs Portugal set to heat up screens with a 7.45 pm kick-off. Frustrated fans have taken to X, which we used to call Twitter, venting their spleens.
One irate follower typed out: “FFS, does that mean Coronation Street isn’t on? “, while another lamented: “They’ve cancelled Coronation Street for this! ” And it ain’t the first time Corrie enthusiasts have had their soap suds burst by a telly timetable turmoil, following a recent uproar when their beloved Friday night indulgence was swapped out for a footy face-off between Manchester United and Leicester City during the FA Cup.
Earlier this month, it was announced that both Coronation Street and Emmerdale will experience a significant schedule reshuffle next year. Currently, Emmerdale airs daily at 7.30pm on ITV with a half-hour episode, and a special hour-long episode each Thursday, reports the Mirror.
Meanwhile, Corrie fans enjoy an hour-long visit to the famous cobbles on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8pm. However, it has been confirmed that in 2026, there will be a soap ‘power hour’, with Emmerdale airing for half an hour each day at 8pm and Coronation Street following immediately after at 8.30pm each day, again for half an hour.
This means viewers will be able to indulge in the drama from the Cobbles every weekday. Despite the additional days, the shorter episodes mean fans will see five hours a week rather than the six they’re currently accustomed to.
Recently, the soap has seen a significant return as Julie Carp, portrayed by actress Katy Cavanagh, has made her way back to the soap. Julie’s return was announced weeks ago, as her storyline is believed to be linked with her sister Eileen Grimshaw’s (Sue Cleaver) departure from the soap.
