It’s Britain over Hollywood for the best films, according to British acting legend Warwick Davis – ‘We have the best fillmmakers in the world’ Warwick told the Daily Star
Movie legend Warwick Davis rates Britain over Hollywood these days.
The actor thinks we’re leading the way when it comes to making top notch films.
He said: “In Britain we have the best filmmakers in the world, the best technicians and wonderful facilities. If you go to the west of London, there are so many brand new studios springing up. It’s a wonderful place to make a movie. That’s why the world comes to the UK to make their films.”
With a cheeky smile, he added: “It’s not just that. You also have all the wonderful actors here as well!”
Warwick knows a thing or two about making a great film after starring in a string of iconic ones over the years.
Since starting out at just 11, he’s had roles in franchises including Star Wars and Harry Potter.
Add to that iconic flick Willow, Leprechaun and Horrible Histories and you’ve got a career most actors could only dream of. Warwick credits Star Wars creator George Lucas for his success.
He said: “I’ve had some great mentors over the years. George Lucas was the first employer of mine back in 1981. Since then he’s continued to support me as a performer and trusted me with roles he’s written.
“And right up to the present day, we’ve remained friends.”
As you’d expect, George is a bit of a hero to him. He added: “I admire what George has done for cinema. Not just with making films, but also making sure the quality and presentation is up to standard.”
Warwick was honoured with the prestigious Fellowship gong at the BAFTAs last weekend. Previous winners include Dame Judi Dench, Warren Beatty and Mel Brooks, so he’s in very good company.
Getting it at the bash last Sunday was one of the happiest moments of his life.
He said: “It was amazing. You get up on the stage and it’s a surreal moment. I’m used to being on stage, but nothing quite prepares you for receiving a BAFTA.
“You see the great and the good of the film industry looking back at you, applauding you, standing up… it’s pretty overwhelming. All these things compound to make you almost speechless. But it’s me… that’ll never happen!” At 55, Warwick has no plans to slow down. In fact, he’s already eyeing more high-profile roles, including one in the new Harry Potter TV series.
He said: “It would be lovely for the show to have some legacy characters to connect the series to the films. I’d never say never to doing it. I also love Wallace & Gromit, so hopefully they’ll give me a role. I love working.”
