TV presenter Miquita Oliver’s first kiss has left fans speechless after finding out who the boy later went on to become – with it being far from a cute little story
Imagine your first kiss turning out to be an ISIS terrorist… well that was the reality for TV presenter Miquita Oliver. The man she shared a primary school peck with turned out to become one of the world’s most high-profile terrorists Jihadi George.
Miquita revealed details of the shocking smooch with the would-be ISIS terrorist, whose real name is Alexanda Kotey, while they were classmates at Fox Primary School in Kensington.
Speaking to friend Lily Allen on her Miss Me podcast the 40-year-old began reflecting on the school years she shared with the singer: “Do you remember who my first kiss is? It’s Alexy — mixed-race Alexy from Fox. And do you remember what happened to Alexy? He became Jihadi George!”
Kotey was a high-profile member of the Islamic State terrorist cell. His group became known for targeting Westerners and carrying out horrific executions including the kidnap and murder of 27 people including British aid worker David Haines. Kotey’s group even became known as “the Beatles” because of their British accents heard by their hostages with Jihadi John another prominent member.
In his early life, while going to school with both Oliver and Allen, he grew up in Shepherd’s Bush with a dad from Ghana and a Greek-Cypriot mother.
He is later thought to have become a drug dealer based in West London before being radicalised and converting to Islam in his early 20s. He and his group then volunteered to fight for the IS group in Syria when he left his family and two children behind and began guarding western hostages in 2012.
Allen replied: “She does pick ’em. It is kind of crazy that your first kiss ended up there. That’s pretty mental.”
Oliver then wrapped up the chat, by stating: “It’s not my story to tell so let’s move on!”
Kotey was reportedly captured in 2018 by Kurdish forces when trying to flee Syria for Turkey. He had his British citizenship revoked and was shipped off to the US for trial.
He pleaded guilty to eight separate charges and was sent to jail on a life sentence. He is thought to be serving his first 15 years in a maximum security prison in America before being shipped back to the UK after 15 years to serve out the rest of his days.
The two could not have been on more different paths with Miquita, the daughter of chef and Great British Menu host Andi Oliver, becoming a TV star at the age of just 16 when she hosted Popworld with comedian Simon Amstell.
