The cause of death for film and TV actress Michelle Trachtenberg has been confirmed by authorities in the US following the tragic news of her passing at the age of 39
The cause of death for Michelle Trachtenberg has been disclosed following the heartbreaking announcement of her demise.
The TV star, renowned for her roles as Georgina Sparks in the popular teen drama Gossip Girl and Dawn Summers in the iconic supernatural series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, was only 39 when she died. Her death was announced on Wednesday, shocking fans who had recently voiced concerns over her frail appearance in social media posts prior to her death.
The actress was discovered at her New York home on Wednesday, with the news of her death leaving fans distraught and shattered. Following the announcement of her death, it was reported that the actress had recently undergone a liver transplant, and her death was not being treated as suspicious by the police.
Shortly after the announcement of her death, authorities in the USA shared the cause of death. There has been speculation that the star may have suffered complications post-surgery, but this has not been cited as a cause of death, reports the Mirror.
ABC in America reported that the star had passed away due to “natural causes”. Their report read: “Trachtenberg is believed to have died of natural causes and no foul play is suspected.”
This followed a New York Post report that first broke the news of the Buffy star’s death. Trachtenberg was a mere nine years old when she shot to fame in the iconic 90s Nickelodeon show The Adventures of Pete and Pete, where she graced the screen as the memorable Nona F. Mecklenberg.
Winning hearts early on as Harriet the Spy, she continued her acting streak right up until 2024. Just days before the tragic news of Trachtenberg’s death emerged, her fans started worrying about her looking remarkably thin in social media snaps shared just over a week prior to her sad passing.
Taking to Instagram, she posted a snap of herself in a snazzy blue jumper adorned with an animal motif. Her caption read: “Eye of the Tiger” accompanied by a lion emoji and the evil eye amulet emoji, a sign of protection.
Not long before that post, she uploaded another selfie sporting sunnies on her head, cryptically captioning it: “The warmth before the storm.”
And following those, she indulged her followers in a nostalgic spree, posting retro pics from various events, playing characters, or strutting down red carpets. Fans shared their concerns about how frail Trachtenberg appeared in recent photos – meanwhile, the celeb clapped back at fan theories about her wellbeing.
In a candid post last year, she hit out: “I’ve received several comments recently about my appearance. I have never had plastic surgery I am happy and healthy. Check yourself haters.”
