Cindy Beale recently left Albert Square, but viewers are convinced she’s set to return to Walford – and will be bringing an old friend with her
EastEnders icon Cindy Beale abruptly left Walford on Tuesday (February 25), but fans are convinced she will return with an old friend. After weeks of paranoia, scheming Cindy (Michelle Collins) now knows that her ex-mother-in-law Kathy Cotton (Gillian Taylforth) attacked her with a shovel on Christmas Day.
Last week, Cindy shot her ex-husband Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) in the arm during a tense showdown before later pushing him into the path of Reiss Colwell’s (Jonny Freeman) speeding car on Bridge Street.
Cindy’s split decision to push Ian sparked a tragic chain of events as Reiss crashed into The Queen Vic causing an explosion, which eventually led to the death of Ian’s cousin, Martin Fowler (James Bye).
On Tuesday (February 26), Ian told Cindy that he would keep quiet about the events leading up to Martin’s death, if she didn’t expose Kathy’s crime.
In response, Cindy shamelessly explained that Ian had been a bit light on his side of the deal before demanding he return her share of the money in their business account. Ian agreed but only if Cindy did another disappearing act from the Square immediately.
As Ian lit a candle for Martin at Beale’s Eels, Kathy, Peter Beale (Thomas Law), Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) and the Knights arrived after being called to a gathering by Cindy.
Instead of revealing the truth of her attack, Cindy made out that she still suspected any one of them, adding that she didn’t feel safe and was going away to stay with old friend Gita Kapoor (Shobu Kapoor).
In recent weeks, Cindy has mentioned her pal Gita on more than one occasion sparking rumours among EastEnders fans that she is about to make a return to the BBC soap after a 26 year absence.
Gita arrived in Albert Square heavily pregnant in 1993 to be with husband Sanjay (Deepak Verma). Following her arrival, she was quick to strike up a close and unlikely friendship with Cindy.
During her time on the show, Gita was involved in some major storylines, including one that saw her discover that husband Sanjay had been having an affair with her sister, Meena.
In a bid to get revenge, Gita left the Square in September 1998 with the daughter they shared, only telling Cindy where she was going.
Now EastEnders fans are convinced Gita is making her way to Albert Square with her old mate Cindy. Taking to X, one viewer wrote: “Gita mention #EastEnders”, while a second added: “#EastEnders would be nice if Gita makes an appearance.”
A third chimed in: “Watching #EastEnders on iPlayer and love the Gita mention in 2025! I’d have loved to have seen Gita return for the 40th.”
“Potential Gita return?! #Eastenders @bbceastenders”, asked one fan while another exclaimed: “GITA MENTION LETS GO! #Eastenders.”
One person pointed out: “A Gita mention! Where’s Sanjay? How do they know Cindy’s alive, yet it seems like her own daughter doesn’t!! #EastEnders.”
EastEnders airs Monday – Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC One and iPlayer
