Gossip Girl star Michelle Trachtenberg was tragically found dead in her New York home, with the heartbreaking news breaking on Wednesday (February 26).
The actress, best known for her role as Georgina Sparks, was just 39 at the time of her death. Fans were left reeling by the news, particularly as they had recently voiced concerns over her frail appearance in social media posts prior to her passing.
Following the announcement of her death, it emerged that the actress had recently undergone a liver transplant, and police are not treating her death as suspicious.
Authorities responded to an emergency call around 8am on Wednesday at One Columbus Place in New York, where the Euro Trip actress was confirmed dead upon the arrival of emergency medical services. In the days leading up to her death, Michelle had been spotted at a SoHo restaurant, where her gaunt appearance alarmed staff.
On February 20, she dined at Sartiano’s restaurant, with one employee noting that she ‘looked really unwell’ and ‘very sickly’. They revealed in a recent interview: “She was thin, like tiny, she couldn’t walk down the stairs. She was not in a great mood, it wasn’t the best impression.”
Speaking to MailOnline, they added: “It’s spooky because she was in here just last week on Thursday night,” before describing the actress as ‘really nice’. ABC in America has announced the sad news that the star passed away due to “natural causes”. In their Wednesday report, they stated: “Trachtenberg is believed to have died of natural causes and no foul play is suspected, reports the Mirror.
This comes after the New York Post initially reported the death of the Buffy star. David Boreanaz, who starred alongside Michelle in ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’, expressed his deep sorrow on Instagram stories, posting a black and white photo of Trachtenberg with the caption: “So very sad. Horrible news. RIP and prayers to her and her family.”
Michelle portrayed Dawn Summers, the sister of the titular character Buffy Ann Summers, who had a romantic storyline with Angel, played by Boreanaz. Blake Lively, known for her role as Serena van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl’and a fellow co-star of Michelle’s, also shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, saying: “Everything she did, she did 200%.
“She laughed the fullest at someone’s joke, she faced authority head on when she felt something was wrong, she cared deeply about her work, she was proud to be a part of this community and industry as painful as it could be sometimes, she was fiercely loyal to her friends and brave for those she loved, she was big and bold and distinctly herself. “
